Updated Scoreboard Photos
I was by the stadium today and took some photos of the scoreboard construction (for those who care, realizing this could be a small subsection of the crowd). Hopefully, I don't butcher the re-sizing too badly. I was going to post them in an older thread about scoreboard construction but figured it was already a bit too wide with images on that page.
This is a view driving by the south end zone (my only south board pic).
North end zone...rear of the board:
Rear of board close-up:
A bit wider view (notice the additional strip of board below the main board, and above the legendary halo remnants):
More north board (different angle):
Close-up of top west corner construction:
Yet another angle...the "Michigan Stadium" looks nice:
Another straight-ahead view of rear. It looks like the bottom left and right of the bottom strip (which the rendering made to look like an entire, usable video space) are just solid blue paneling. The final product is likely to look a bit different than the rendering.
p.s. Sorry for the huge images. I tried a few times to re-size but having no luck. If anyone can help, that'd be great. Thanks.
I'm confused. I thought there was a maize "M" starting on the back o fthe north scoreboard. It's not there now?
Right. I was surprised to see no yellow line anywhere.
Not there. Not sure why but I'm sure they have it well planned out.
It was funny. An advert for the "Clean Ann Arbor Clean" t-shirt was hanging from the crane in the first picture. Nice effect.
Brady Hoke pointing? Or OSU's tombstone?
It loooks like there is a nice little space right in the middle for what could be the block M.
Looks to me like they are using different panels for the yellow block M. The gaps between the blue panels are the exact distance for the bases of each sides of the M, and the little gap fits for the "V" in the middle.
but virtual pos-bang to you for the pictures, as well as the effort!
I just tried another time (a user had some good suggestions in another thread), but no luck still. Shit, sorry.
I appreciate the pics! I used to drive by everyday, but just started a new job in NYC, so it's great just to be able to see up-to-the-minute progress.
Watching these go up.... It just makes you want to volunteer hours and help them put it up.
Seriously, they've got just over a month to get everything done. I'de be more than happy to help out with the paneling, despite my complete lack of knowledge about anything I would need to know for the job.
Is my video feed screwed up, or they actually testing out the screen now?
Get on the webcam, they appear to be testing the video screen right now!

Cue the Close Encounters theme . . . ba, ba, ba, BA, baaa!
Its weird how a few colored lights on that board just got me exponentially more excited for football season... I can't wait
Too bad Double Rainbow Guy is not around to provide commentary.
That's much cooler than my giant still photos!
I guess large scoreboard = large pixels, but man I was hoping for better than 10 x 25 resolution.
I didn't know they test those screens by hooking them up to an Atari 2600...
When we get in the Guiness Book of World Records for Most Watched Game of Pong, we'll all be glad we did!
By the way, the scoreboard kind of resembles the big color/light/musical-tone board from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Mabye Hoke's using it to secretly communicate with recruits?
Yeah, there's a ARP2500 inside that thing for generating sweet random synth noises.
Great update. I still wonder if the 'M' on the back panel will be raised like the 'Michigan Stadium' is on the front.
And its pretty crazy how Brian always has an MGoblog store banner up somewhere near the stadium. I'm surprised the University allows that.
its so trippy watching them test it
The snozberries taste like snozberries
Do you boys like Mexico?!?!
I wish they'd use the pressbox lettering for something. That looked classic
The letters are mounted inside the concourse. They look good there, but it's not a very visible/noticeable position.
The "Michigan Stadium" lettering looks fucking sexy on that "yet another angle" pic.
Being that DB is a marketing guru is there some type of subliminal message going on in the screen test? I swear to G_D I yelled out Go Blue and F_ck Ohio after I stared intently for 30 seconds.
Actually, if you blur your eyes, you can make out what appears to be an image of a man pointing...
Teenage memories of trying to watch the scrambled Playboy Channel, fun times.
I, too, have a similar adult channel memory...when I was in college in the mid-80's, our cable box would scramble the adult channels but leave the audio. However, if you changed the channel away from the scrambled channel and back to it, the image would appear clear for a couple of seconds. While it wasn't ideal, you could watch the movie simply by changing the channel back and forth. LOL
Till it kinda came in all static-y.

<br>Not that I ever did that.

A little aluminum foil in the right place helped with the static. At least that's what I heard in uh, er, highschool, yes.
Either that, or Lt. Uhuru needs to turn on the Universal Translator. I'll be freaked out if we start hearing the tones from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
If you play “Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon” album in syncs up perfect.
"See? When the cash register sample from money comes in, a bunch of giant pixels appear. What do you mean? It TOTALLY syncs up!"
Thanks for the update and the time it took to take the pics. I live in TN and so it's hard to see progress on the various projects that are ongoing around campus. Deep down, I think Dave Brandon is building the Michigan brand with hopes of eventually hosting a Super Bowl at Michigan Stadium, how nice would that be?
Anybody notice that it looks like the crane says "All in" on the side. coinsedence?....prob.
I hope that was a joke. The crane is from Allingham Crane Corp.
how awesome the stadium looks now with the press boxes, new score boards, and lights. This is so freaking cool
If this is the new Tetris, I say we go back to the classic 1984 version.
My guess (as somebody with some amount of related experience) is the paneling isn't up yet because if there's anything wrong with the wiring, it'll be a hell of a lot easier to fix it this way instead of if they were all boxed in.
Can't really see much of the first picture but the rest of the pictures are very well done. Cant wait to see them done!
Someone is out there taking pics.
