"Little Brother's" preparing to fight

Submitted by goody on

With their recent verbal commit of the massive 6' 8" OT from Iowa, MSU and dantonio are putting together one hell of a recruiting class.  With some research, MSU has (according to Rivals):

  • (3) four star OT's
  • (2) four star RB's
  • (1) four star QB
  • (1) four star WR
  • (1) four star OLB

Yes, ratings this early really don't mean much, but come-on, "Little Brother" is going through puberty and looking to take a couple of swings at ol' "Big Brother" for pushing him around for the past few years.

This rivarly is really going to start to get interesting ......finally.

I read an article saying that they only have 16 or 17 scholarships to give so they are almost done with this season's class - assuming they can hold them until signing day. So far they only have one kid not from Michigan or a state that shares a land border with Michigan. I like how Dantonio won't look past Michigan this year - essentially saying UofM will suck, little insult he gets in there. Too bad his best season ever is 5 losses.

So what you're saying is expect a green and white run at the league title in like 2011 or 2012. Only a quarter of a century since their last title. About time they seized on that momentum.

I think part of the perception of them being a recruiting powerhouse this year is the totally blow job they receive from the Detroit Media, whereas Michigan gets punked by Drew Sharp and Mike Rosenberg.

I think what's going on here is that RR is recruiting much more for the system, leaving D'Antonio to clean up the state. That is, if Michigan doesn't have super mobile OL and electron-sized WR recruits, then RR won't go after them. That means MD'A will have first crack at the behemoth OL and statuesque WRs. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of the following in the next few years: 1. MSU regularly winning in-state recruiting battles with UM (in terms of stars and rankings of players in Michigan); and 2. UM regularly dominating MSU in terms of national recruiting rankings; but 3. MSU occasionally nipping at the heels of UM in national recruiting rankings (depending on how well MD'A can coach); and 4. UM continuing to dominate L'il Bro on the field.

Sparty is Sparty. Their biggest selling point is always playing time, and they always have a handful of talented players because of it. Look up the recruiting rankings of their current starting lineup and you'll find a fair number of 4-stars. What they never have is depth, though, because once they sign these guys, their biggest selling point disappears and no one wants to go there. They had a terrible class in 2008 and will probably have another one in 2010.

That would assume a lot of things

- Every 4-5 star lives up to potential on the field

- They don't get in trouble

- They don't leave early

- They have enough of a balance that their 5 star QB isn't playing behind a crumbling line of fatsos

- Nobody get hurts

Michigan and OSU sign classes as good or better than MSU every year.  We don't have down recruiting years like they did last year (and, I expect, next year).  A single class is never enough.  You need to have a balanced roster.  The only thing this suggests is that MSU might have a couple of all-Big Ten players down the road (which is normal for them: think Charles Rogers, T.J. Duckett, Josh Thornhill, Javon Ringer, etc.)

MSU's class is made of two RB's that no longer fit Michigan's style, a WR worse than the two we've signed, and a QB RR wouldn't really consider. The O-linemen, and the LB, I guess they just out-did us for.

Let's all just hold hands and rationalize away the fact that Sparty has put together a nice lil class. A one a two a three We're Michigan if Sparty get's 'em It's cuz we didn't need 'em Or because MSU pays'em They'll all come to Michigan' when they realize that we're u, MICHIGAN And they should come here because we think they should!
