Let's Show Our Support in One Voice on Saturday

Submitted by jmcwannab on
Dear Fellow Wolverines,
After all of the events over the past few days it is crucial we show the team they have our support. There have been a number of great ideas passed around the board and one stuck out in my head. A chant. It would be a great way to show the entire program our support in one unanimous voice.

So what to cheer?
We need to keep this simple, classy, and meaningful. Why not take the very slogan the team has been telling us over the past couple of months?

"All In"

When should we do this?
The best time would be right before kickoff. Let the team take the field, hear our fight song, and touch the banner. When all of that dies down we start. A slow chant would be best to ensure it doesn't come out as too jumbled.

How can we do this?
This NEEDS to start with the student section. That is the heart, soul, and voice of the Big House. I imagine we need one group (at least 15) the start the initial chant. Any volunteers? If enough people have exposure to this idea they will jump in too. Having a queue crew is key though!

How to spread the word:
- Spread this to rivals, scout, and any other site you visit to get your Michigan fix.
- Email your friends that will be at the game
- Tell the Daily (maybe they would be willing to help out)
- Tweedle-dee (twitter) it
- Mention it in your Facebook status
- Whatever you can do to get the word out

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this would be really well received and could help jump start the season.

Here is the sad part, as much as I want this to happen I won't be there to see it fail or succeed. I don't live in Ann Arbor anymore (wooo class of '07), but this is now a goal of mine and hopefully yours. Our present to a team that has worked it's butt off over the past 8 months (voluntarily).

Are you all in?

Somebody call Beilein in to hammer it home... I thought it was a great slogan for the Basketball team last year when they needed a big win at Minnesota. But, this message is even more important for this football team, their families, and those of us that are blue blooded Michigan fans. When Cortez landed at Vera Cruz there was no turning back, so he burned his own boats to show his men that they only way they were leaving was in the boats of their enemy. The same goes for this football team. There is no way out but for our players to take each game head on. The same goes for this fan base. We can't fire RR. Have you forgot the 10K recruiting posts on this site? We have slot Ninjas now and RRs guys, losing him would send this program into a 4 year tail spin. This is what makes Drew Sharp an ass clown. His inability to see that this program and RR need each other. And we have no reason to doubt his emotion, passion, or integrity. Love Lloyd all you want but RR was the direction this program had to go in. So...Fuck your OSU and MSU friends and their petty comments. The guys that really know something about football - know that this story is garbage, and the ones that don't? They aren't worth your time. Same goes for apparently 95% of the main stream media, a fraternity of men aging fast in our modern world of technology and research. It used to take weeks for reporters to do quality work... Now these dbags post stuff filled with fluff they read on other sites, the google search function has made them lazy and complacent, and writers like Brian will eventually take their jobs. These guys care about silly things like Total Offense, which means nothing compared to DVOA, or ALY. This community is the most knowledgeable community on Michigan football that exists. It is the only place where people debate what happened on 3rd and 7, in the second quarter of the NIU opener of 2005. We know that RR is the father of the spread offense - because we have read every article written on him in the last 10 years, not the last 10 minutes. There is no reason to doubt him and considering the risk aversion that this University traditionally takes, I am sure there is no reason to doubt our compliance department. So bunker down and worry first and foremost about this team. About our freshmen. About our Senior leaders. It's fun to curse Tony Clemons because he is a turncoat, but honestly...so what? He wanted his 5minutes of fame because he is going to suck at Colorado - just like he sucked at Michigan. If this is the smartest community of Michigan fans that exists, then lets figure out how we can get a message to the team that we support them. Is there an email address? can we send cookies? maybe we need to recruit some girls to make posters like in High School? But let's get some contructive ideas going... The strength of the group is the strength of the leaders. We are the leaders of this fanbase.

Has anyone actually done a DVOA for the 2008 Wolverines? A quick search of mgoblog using the term DVOA yields only 5 results - none of which are a DVOA analysis. I'd certainly yield the point that you're contending, but frankly I haven't seen any analysis that lays out precisely why we should believe that Michigan was better than last year's record indicates. Do I believe M will be better this year? Yes, I do. However, I have tempered expectations (a bowl birth - any bowl - being a successful season). Coupled with the fact that the starting QB is likely going to be a true freshmen (one of two), do you not understand the ribbing that you get? I don't buy all this "Rodriguez is a cheater and child molester and burns down nunneries" BS, but let's be clear: there is reason to be optimistic (for M fans, anyway) for the future, but the NOW isn't bright and sunny. THAT is why your rivalries are poking fun - not because they don't know anything about football. So if you're going to use the "we know more about M" argument - which is probably true - don't just invoke DVOA or ALY and expect everyone to quiver in their boots. "We're statistically good" is a bad argument; show us some numbers.

But repeatedly chanting something as short as "All in" would get annoying and not have the effect you're looking for. I believe an earlier diary mentioned doing a "Rich Rod-ri-guez" chant.

I have no suggestions and won't be able to take part as I live about 2500 miles from AA. Whatever you choose I will be chanting on my couch right along with you. Lets show these boys the love and respect they deserve!
