Iowa Wallpaper (take 2)

Submitted by Blue Indy on October 30th, 2011 at 11:46 PM

We're back on the road again this week to face an Iowa team that unexplainably chocked against B1G bottom-feeder Minnesota has been inconsistent this season. Since I already went the whole "animal eye" route with Northwestern's wallpaper and the corn thing has been done [well!] by monuMental, I wanted to do something different.

Now, as a former resident of north campus (go Bursley!) and a Computer Science major, it will come as little surprise that I'm a Marvel comic book fan. With the emergence of Marvel movies, I'm sure you're all familiar with X-Men's Wolverine. Those of you who know comic book heroes by movie only, however, probably aren't familiar with the Avengers' Hawkeye (although you will be, since he'll be in the upcoming Avengers movie). Generally, I think using Wolverine (X-Men) as a "mascot" for Michigan is a little lame, but seeing as how our opponent this weekend also has a Marvel alter-ego, I couldn't resist:

It a coincidence. It has never been stated, to my knowledge, that there is a connection in any way. The only thing I can think of is comics look better with bright colors, and the yellow and blue of Wolverine's costume fits.

As for the pattern of the costume, there are two versions of Wolverine;s origins. The most accepted one today is the "born a mutan-human", however, there is another that Wolverine is actually a mutated wild wolverine that evolved into a human-like figure, but with super-human traits. Perhaps the patterns of the costume were based on the patterns of real wolverines because of this lesser accepted (although original) origin story.

I have a hard time buying it.  Of all the primary color costumes in the world you use the same colors for a guy called Wolverine? And give him wing ears, and tiger strips?  When they switched him to the brown it made a lot more sense. But they went back, and it just seems like a heck of a coincidence.

yellow and blue were pretty much always the X-Men's colors. except when they went black and yellow in the 80's or 90's...I try to forget anything that included Jubilee.

Wolverine, likwise, was almost always blue and yellow.

EDIT: sorry this was supposed to be higher in response to someones question.  too lazy to move it.

Agree w/ wolv92 earlier, this is TOO great for just one use.  I want it without the date to be able to use again next year.

(Went to grad school at Iowa, have a special dislike for them,… in the stands w/ Scarcelli’s dad that day. Dam, Houghtlin and Jimmy shoulda' held onto pick!)
