CFP Expansion Idea
November is around the corner so we face that time again ......
when the playoff committee has way too many 1 loss teams and no idea how to whittle them to 4.
People want 6 teams? 8 teams? How about 10 teams with no further expansion!
That 10 team playoff your looking for, I can give it to ya.
Conference Championship Retasking!
There are already 5 games that help determine the final four, problem is about 3 of those 10 teams have no chance at the playoff. We can already see there are potential match ups in the B12 and Pac12 that will do nothing to get a one loss champ from either of those conferences into the CFP. But, if they are open to inviting a quality opponent to their championship game they can create a match up that is more compelling, so more profitable, plus gives them the greater potential for a spot in the CFP for their conference.
So, for example: LSU upsets Bama and heads to the SEC championship instead, now you have the "1 loss Bama" scenario and any 1 loss Champ from B12 or Pac12 knows they're cooked. So instead of playing some loser from the Pac12 south, the conference invites a 1 loss Bama to the Pac12 Championship game to play a 1 loss Oregon with the winner having a near lock to be one of the final four.
Thought it was a good idea, especially since it could even work this year if things get really chaotic.
Like ......how about "all of the top 8 being 1 loss teams" chaotic.

Dump the conference title games and replace them with round 1 of an 8 team playoff. Conference title games suck and are usually meaningless - too many rematches or dorky matchups that end as expected.

The most important thing is to make the rounds of the playoffs more than one week apart. These are not pro athletes; student-athletes need time to recover, prepare, and spend some time on academics (and ideally Christmas with family); and fan bases need more time to schedule travel plans, especially to neutral sites.
Schedule the first round the third weekend in December, top seeds get home field - or their designated alternative site.
Semi-final round two weeks later.
Final mid-January.
Only two schools get the season extended by one week, with limited number of practices and mandatory study halls. (Whether school is on semester or quarter system, only one of the weeks - in December or January - overlaps with school.)

We can just get rid of rivalries and conferences and run it like the World Cup.
We will have group stages followed by single elimination stages.
No I'm not being serious but at some point expansion will need to stop or you may as well run it this way.
I'd say 6 or maybe 8 past that too many games and takes too long to execute.

8 teams would get pretty much every deserving team in
Its way to much of an advantage to give teams a bye especially in such a physical sport
