12th Game Announced

Submitted by PaulVB on
Michigan has announced its 12th opponent for the 2009 season. The Detroit News is reporting that Delaware St. will fill the remaining open spot on the schedule. Luckily, it's not Delaware. Way too confusing with helmets. Delaware St. is a FCS school known mainly for the controversy of Delaware not scheduling them for a regular season game. While a part of me wants to express outrage over scheduling a middling FCS team, a less indignant part of me would prefer a win by any means necessary. Western Michigan could be a tough game to open the season, and Notre Dame, in spite of horrible coaching, has solid talent. If Rodriguez can't up his win total a significant amount there will certainly be a bunch of business at Ann Arbor Torch & Pitchfork. I'm coming down on the side of this being a necessary evil and another easy $4 million for the Athletic department. What do you guys think? Is Michigan at a point where it should try to be above the fray or should the schedule reflect the fact that this is still a rebuilding process? There will be an informative update in a bit. There's actually a blog that covers Delaware St.'s conference. Awesome.

I don't know about you, but I watch football to be entertained. This (hopefully) will be a bore fest, therefore defeating the purpose of watching football. I'll still watch every second of play, but probably won't enjoy it nearly as much as I would if it were a quality team.

In my opinion, if you need to book Delaware State in order to make it "more likely' that you'll make a bowl game, then you probably shouldn't be in a bowl game. The only advantage you're really talking about is more practice time and $ for bowl appearance, and more revenue from the Del St game. The streak is over. I'd rather watch Michigan play the Michigan Rugby team.

Let's give the Tartar Warriors a chance to play in the big house. Hell, let's call GVSU. It's done and I know we had to select from very few teams with an open date, but wasn't EVERYONE else in D1 in the same predicament? Is it my perception or were we late getting this 12th game scheduled (compared to other D1 teams)?

that we're football pansies, and I'm disgusted that RR (who I've supported all along) seems to think this is OK. As for Martin, he's fine at building new facilities, and completely clueless at scheduling opponents. I couldn't care less that other programs are doing this. No D-1A team that played opponents below D-1A should be eligible for bowl games, not to mention the NC. I guess we can count on a few years hence games against high school teams in Florida or Texas. What's the difference?

Just don't lose!!!!! This is not the worst scheduling ever, unless of course we find a way to lose. Worst scheduling ever would be Appy State. What's the logic the AD goes through there?.... Find a team with the exact type of offense Michigan's defense struggles with historically, a team loaded with experience and seniors at important positions like qb, wr, and running back, an FCS team so you have nothing to win and everything to lose, if you beat them....everyone says nice warmup win against a cupcake, but if you unthinkably lose....it's an historically embarrassing upset. That is the worst scheduling ever!
