Zak Zinter Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

Seth May 16th, 2019 at 7:47 PM

Okay last time I said it was a big one that was true but this time it's literally a big one. Like 6'6"/300 big. Four-star 2020 Massachusetts offensive lineman Zak Zinter is coming to Michigan next year:

It's also a big get in the other sense. Zinter has been moving up boards since moving up programs last year. 247 has him a 90, the 329th player in the country, and the 29th OT. Rivals has him a 5.8, the #16 OT, and inside their top 150, though weirdly a place down in Massachusetts players. ESPN…

…will get around to it. Disagreement given the he's an OL in New England is doubly understandable because he was playing guard last year.

Obviously Don Brown was involved, but so were a lot of schools. Ohio State had an offer out to him even before Michigan, Notre Dame had a visit scheduled for late June, Penn State was involved, and he had an unofficial to Stanford planned last time we covered him (last October) so it seems academics were a factor.

I think a lot of people expected this to be Notre Dame's to lose until MGoUser FatGuyTouchdown noticed some crystal ball movement (all ND—>M) today. Given the direction of Notre Dame OL in recent years, that seems like a very good omen. Given the school he transferred to is Brian Kelly's alma mater it's a little extra sweet.

Informative update (on an offensive lineman from Massachusetts!) later.

Welcome, Zak, and congrats on your success to date!

BTW, don't pay any attention to that smoking crater next to the Big House, we'll get that taken care of soon...

I’d feel a lot better about this if he had at least a few all-conference years at a top power five school first.

Am I doing mgoblog right?

Welcome aboard, Zach.

For our sake, as a comforting reminder that, like success, adversity in a particular sports program is cyclical. The resurgence of the football team after some disappointing years reminds us that the unexpected problems with men's basketball should only be temporary.

But mainly for your own sake. You are joining a talented and well-coached team with an exciting future, which you can be an important part of, and a university with a great academic reputation and an impressive network of alumni. (Don't worry about some of the negative comments on this site: the frustrations, aches and pains that accompany the aging process make us grumpy.)

I hope that you too will one day look back on your years at the U of M with as much pride and fondness as do I and most other alumni.

Go Blue!

Congratulations and Zak!  We are blessed to have you, and welcome to the family!

Lots of good football news lately.  I guess the jokes about being a basketball school are pretty dead at this point...
