Zach Carpenter Commits To Michigan Comment Count

Brian

This one rather came out of nowhere:

That's 3.5* interior lineman Zach Carpenter, a Cincinnati native who had nine crystal ball picks, all to Clemson, before committing to Michigan fairly out of nowhere. Carpenter gives Michigan a full class of 5 OL as they seek to rebuild their line under Ed Warinner. The ranking may not be great but the peripherals look solid; a full Hello post tomorrow.

Cincy Moeller. Yeah, I used to wear my Michigan block M hat to the games, while in school—and still did when I took in occasional games from time to time. It’s not quite the same shade of blue, or the proper UM block M, of course, but hey—close enough.

..."It really gave me an idea of what Coach Harbaugh was like and how involved he is with the program," Carpenter told 247Sports following that visit. "Getting to meet and know Coach Harbaugh was probably the highlight of my visit. My parents and I have the utmost respect for Coach and what he's about after taking this visit. The time he invested in us during our conversations was more than any head coach has done at any school we’ve visited to date. We truly feel like he treated us like family and are grateful for his transparency and honesty (during the visit)."

The Ed Warinner effect.

If this year works out well, GIVE HIM A RAISE AND KEEP HIM HAPPY!

How much of a o-line commitment is that, anyway? "Committed. #Go Blue"  There's something so fitting about that for a trench warrior.

Welcome aboard. Our average composite ranking per player is actually higher than Clemson right now and in line with PSU and much closer to OSU than last year. Finish strong what a Wednesday!

Down a full point per player to PSU with almost 1/2 our class three stars to 1/4 of theirs.  Interesting that their lowest rated player is the #11 juco player in the country and #1 safety.  Being much closer this year to OSU isn't goinmg to take much considering last year was one of the worst recruiting classes in my lifetime, but still down two points per player.  As far as Clemson, they have a punter this year so that 78 brings their average way down.  If you take the punters average out they are equal with us.

The biggest difference is that we are not on the crystal ball projection line for any top 100 recruits while the others you mentioned are. Granted CBs aren't always right

Great commitment day for Blue!

Maizen will be disappointed, for the lack of a 4th star... Good thing no one cares.

I think our Oline will be rebuilt before this guy sees the field.  The 2016-2018 classes will make for an excellent O line in 2019 when this guy will only be a RS freshman.  But he should be able to step in nicely for Bredeson/Onwenu by 2020 (and that's if none of 2017 guys move inside).

He should be more a part of a reload than the rebuild which is halfway there already.
