No in-out since it’s the first one in a while, but a dossier of those in trouble:

MY FATHER has a shirt that says he’s my dad and points me out to various passers-by who notice it. This is not cool.

ANTONIO BASS’ TRAITOROUS KNEE. Bass was a high school quarterback who made Incredibly Surprising Quarterback Draws work with some regularity during his freshman season. He’d be a redshirt junior who couldn’t throw worth a lick but could be Pat White if his knee hadn’t exploded in a contact warmup drill. Preposterously, the injury was the worst knee injury Michigan football’s ever experienced and Bass’s career is over.

Lame.

EAGLES FANS IN MAIZE. There was a smattering of boos at halftime, which is only barely acceptable when a team is clearly playing under its capabilities and even then it’s pretty dickish since no one’s getting paid. When no one from the fans to the coaches to the players knows what they can do, booing can only be the province of people who should exit the stadium like stray extra points.

(THE) GENERAL BLOODYMINDEDNESS OF (THE) UNIVERSE. The Year of Infinite Pain, The Horror, Josh Moore, the Bass thing above, the transfer of Jason Forcier just in time for him to watch Tavita Pritchard beat Oregon State, Mr. Plow’s departure to the maw of the Great Satan… I mean, come on.

WEST VIRGINIA. Make one funny move and we’ll hire Huggins to coach Grand Valley State.

THE SUN. By the time the game was over half the people in the stadium looked deep-fried and the other half had evaporated. Also it got in my eyes. Stupid sun.

THE 4-3 AGAINST A SPREAD. I thought we ditched this at the same time we ditched Jim Herrmann? At least Shafer got wise relatively quick and junked in in favor of nickel packages galore in the second half; though most credit the defensive line with the carnage wrought it was the secondary actually covering Johnson’s first and sometimes second reads that allowed the defensive line to exercise their constitutional right of assembly at the quarterback.

SPAIN.

when this feature originally came out, spain was always on notice.  at first it was just a joke.  i assumed it was some sort of soccer reference (as brian is a big soccer fan).  but to quote brian himself:

Two votes here. One: Card Chronicle,
a Louisville blog that introduced the world to Ill-Advised Haircut,
Kentucky's version of Spain. Um... "Spain" as in the "Spain" of the On
Notice board, an apparently blameless entity that is nonetheless blamed
for all the issues facing the favored program. (Though I should point
out that Spain has recently done me very wrong indeed and now actually warrants its place on the board. And no, ain't tellin'.

because of the sequence of events that led to Utah's last touchdown before the half.  The Sheridan interception, the Troy Smith-like slicing of the defense, the option call with 2 seconds left instead of taking a knee.  I think we all were just in shock.

That said, what did everyone expect?  I didn't boo, and didn't like that others did.  If there was ever a season where Michigan fans were going to need to be optimists, this is it.  The stadium was absolutely dead throughout the third, and it only served as more ammo for those who call us fairweather fans.

Ohio State.  If Beanie isn't 100% I don't think they are going to be to happy this season.  Good to see some of the "______ Hating God" going their way for once.  I mean, JEBUS how many times have injuries F'd Michigan the past few years????  With Hart and Henne last year to Long in 2005 it's been a bitch.  Not to mention poor Mr. Bass.  Suck on that Bucknuts!!

Shit, English made effective halftime adjustemnt vs. Appy State, too. Like this past Staurday though, it was just too little, too late.  What I am hopeful about, though, is that once Shafer figures out WHO can make plays in the actual GAMES then we'll have a much better defense. Mouton is going to play more, Chambers less, etc, etc.

At least Brian's dad is proud of him.  My dad has a billboard up in town stating that he is not my dad.  It's a little over the top if you ask me.

but early in the season lance berkman was batting around .400 and the reporter asked him what it was like to have a chance to hit .400 over the season.  to paraphrase berkman:

"Well, my dad refuses to talk to me unless I'm batting at least .375, so its nice to be able to talk to him."

how's that for a father

The damn student section for saying the "you suck" thing on 4th down in a game where we are playing not well, and, in fact, losing.  I hate it when we're winning, but when we're losing?  It's not even Sparty-worthy.

RR's coaching at the end of the first half cost Michigan the game. I'm glad to see the conservative play calling end but when you're down 5 (manageable margin) and your O is struggling with a minute left in the half you run 3 times. Get to half time and re-group.  Instead he has Nick fling the thing around like breasts at a Motley Crue concert.
