WTKA Roundtable 2/28/2019: Any Old Cook Comment Count

Seth March 1st, 2019 at 7:29 AM

Things discussed:

  • Ed isn't allowed to forget he took McQuaid over Matthews
  • The State game: Tip of cap to Winston. State got Michigan into the usage pattern (e.g. X threes) they desired. Michigan lost their minds.
  • Jordan Morgan was a little salty and Brian agrees.
  • Managing the guys
  • Beilein wasn't going to throw his guys under the bus, but there were things they worked on in practice that the guys just didn't execute
  • Craig runs down the breakdowns from the 4 minutes when M was up six with the ball.
  • The Poole talk: hopefully this was a wakeup call.
  • Was Charles hurt? (Yes) because they haven't had the big lineup. Why not try Iggy at the 2?
  • Castleton advocacy
  • Is Penn State good?
  • Nebraska: the difference with/without Copeland is huge.
  • The Zion Cam: worse than the draft bar in the middle of a Michigan basketball game?
  • Rather watch Bill Walton than Dick Vitale—at least there's some affableness to him being high all the time.
  • Michigan at their best > MSU at their best.

You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Podbean.

I want to find that guy and wherever he's at—I don't know homeless hopefully—and tell him he's the worst person in the world.

So Brian does not want Dick Vitale doing color for his romantic life. Understandable, although I think Vitale would be a decent choice. But I have long felt that Bill Raftery would be the best.

They go man to man! (NTTAWWT)

Yes, I've given this too much thought.

Craig, needed the Henry Wilmore story.  I use to shoot with him in the im.

Especially w Poole not taking a shot in the first half yesterday, and Manny Harris turning down shot after shot one game.  I don't recall Henry Ever turning down shots. He was a scorer more than a shooter.  Go Blue.

Zeke:

I was told the story by the best possible sources, where that means people with reasons to know.

I went back and checked the Daily article on the game in question. The recount states Wilmore didn't score in half one, but then scored 10 points (of his 13) in the last 2:38 of the game. This is at least consistent with the story I have been told.

Certainly, you are right that Henry liked to shoot. Then again, who playing doesn't? Regardless, he was an incredibly talented scorer and even more talented on the boards for a guy who was under 6' 4".

The difference between "recorded" and "pre-recorded" is this: if something is being recorded, it could be happening live, so you can call in to the show. Just be careful what you say because the show is being recorded, so if you say something stupid, it's recorded for posterity. If the show is "pre-recorded," you can't call in because it's already been recorded.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. That's bothered me every time I hear him say that on these podcast intros.
