Sam McGuffie Transfers, Officially Comment Count

Brian

Goodnight, sweet prince:

"I just got out of the compliance office and picked up my release," said McGuffie. "They gave me a full release – no restrictions. I will be somewhere else in January."

Texas A&M is the likely destination. Keep your head on a swivel. And on your shoulders.

Update: I've updated the Depth Chart By Class for 2009, by the way.

Something tells me this won't be the last Michigan sees of McGuffie on the football field. Could there be a aTm vs. Michigan rendezvous in the Alamo Bowl in the future?

Hopefully the people who have jumped on the "Rodriguez is a jerk" bankwagon will take note of McGuffie's unconditional release. On another note: Good luck to McGuffie, who always just seemed like a shy young guy who didn't have too much to say - not an inherently bad trait by any means.

to quote hackattack (the poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation are all his) "also from what ive heard from my friends that have him in class is that he kinda just sits in the back and doesnt talk-they think its because of his ego....if this is teh case id much rather have someone on my team with a positive atmostphere about him. again i do not know this to be true, it is just what i have been told by my peers." So the young man sits in class and doesn't talk. Wow. Unheard of. Maybe he should be doing flips over fellow students and have a constant loop of his You Tube video on his iPod to show everyone in class. Would that imply that he doesn't have an ego because he is making a scene. Or is the more likely scenario that McG is just a shy, quiet kid that is trying to learn something in class?

I'll take a million quiet guys like Sam over a single pompous asshat like Mallett around campus anyday. I think it says a lot about these guys looking at the comments about them; I don't seem to remember many well-wishers sending Mallett south.

I'll replace 'asshat' with 'jerk' if that will make the post more PG. I understand the idea behind not speaking poorly of current and recently departed M players. My point of Sam being missed and Mallet not missed still stand; from a personality level at least.

Once Threet got banged up he stopped keeping the ball on those option plays, even when the DE was blatantly not staying home on him. That really hurt the offense. Also, what evidence is out there that Mallett can hit the broad side of a barn any better than Threet? Mallett's accuracy was horrendous last year and his completion percentage in HS, where it should be like shooting fish in a barrel, was barely 50%. I wouldn't be surprised if Mallett continues to disappoint at Arkansas because of his inaccuracy.

I wish Sam well. I liked him, I wanted to like him more, and I hope that he finds what he is looking for in his life, be it with football, family, or anything else he seeks. I just hope wherever he lands does a baseline of his brainwaves so that if he does have any further concussion problems, they can monitor appropriately. College football is great, but it's not worth ruining the rest of your life for frankly.

WTF? He's decommited and Rivals has his interest in M as "LOW". Now what about the Inside Linebackers??? Beilein has vertigo? What a shitty start to the weekend.

Personally, I think the fact that he had multiple concussions played a big role in his decision. Sam isn’t stupid, and I am sure he has talked to people. He knows that 3 concussions in one season is a lot. He knows that each consecutive concussion happens with lesser and lesser amounts of force and increases his risk of brain damage later in life. Trying to decide if you are going to play football anymore is a tremendously hard decision to make when it is all you have ever known. Trying to make this kind of decision 2000 miles away from family/friends is even harder. (Not to mention that he might have seen himself slipping down the depth chart). In the end, I think everybody in the Michigan family wishes him well. Both in football or outside if that is the decision he makes.

Just remember half of the people you meet (on a bell curve view of things) are below the median IQ. Hope to see you on the other side of the hump Hack after you receive some tutoring. Get out of Sam's head and just comment on the stuff you see on the field. I wouldn't talk to you on the bus either if I thought you were looking for info to post on the internet. Don't forget Emo Philips always said,"Mom said there is always one weirdo on every bus, but I ride the bus all of the time and I have NEVER seen one!" Yeah it's you. We'll be fine without him. Move on.

thanks man haha. it might take a while for me to jump over that bell curve since most people think that my writing is so poor that i am a statistical outlier over 2 sd from the mean lol. ill stick to my history and math concentration. also i would like to point out that i never once said that i believed that sam had an ego...my peers thought that. i saw sam at the movies the weekend of the minnesota game and he just seemed like a normal guy on a date to the movies...except all the kids were staring at him. o and ill make sure to post how i did on my research paper so maybe i can prove to the blog-o-sphere i am a semi decent writer.

People of Earth! I am a man from the future!

I've come to tell you that McGuffie never lives up to the hype of the recruiting video. His college career is pretty much just people speaking fondly of his high school highlight mixtape. He does shift to a pretty successful bobsled career! Or moderately successful, I think...
