Osman Savage Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

Seth January 25th, 2019 at 9:50 AM

A somewhat under-the-radar 2020 linebacker and Name of the Year Candidate announced on Twitter that he has committed. Actually he first said "Michigan University" then deleted that tweet to post a correct one, a very Michigan characteristic.

Savage plays WLB and RB for Biff Poggi at St. Francis Academy. Rivals thinks he's a top 150 prospect while 247Sports has him ranked 200 spots lower (ESPN hasn't gotten around to him yet). Though he's listed as an OLB, at 6'2"/225, Savage is probably ticketed for WLB and MLB at Michigan, a position with a rich history of metal naming conventions. He lists offers from Maryland, WVU, GT, UMass, with a Pitt visit and some MSU interest.

We'll have a more informative update later. For now here's where he places among ILBs in my database:

Just looking at that list of linebackers is fascinating: some great players, some decent ones, some who were mishandled (Gedeon, who should have red shirted), and some who never made it.  You never really know until you see how kids adjust to college life and get on the field.

He's listed at 6'2" 225lbs on 247's site.  That sounds like the biggest linebacker we've recruited in a long time here.  Does this mean we're getting away from the super athletic "murder squirrels"?  Or maybe he's a big murder squirrel?  Yes please!

Welcome aboard!

Devin Bush as the #7 ILB in that class continues to astound me.  I can't get over the fact that he's 3 inches taller than Bush and basically the same weight.  Not to go all Fred Jackson, but "Devin Bush but bigger" would be pretty awesome.
