Two years ago I would've told you to prepare your doomsday kits, but the Spartan fanbase has been rather beaten down since then. It might be worth preparing one anyway.

Let me be clear, I'm not worried about playing MSU at night because we might lose and embarrass ourselves. We play our game and avoid mistakes and MSU is getting trucked by us.
Regardless, if we blow them out at night, it's what we're supposed to do and nothing changes with regards to either program. We've kind of established the night game as a special event at Michigan, one reserved for marque opponents, which MSU does not fit the definition of this season. I just prefer we treat MSU less like Ohio State and more like Rutgers (not that we're ever going to play the Buckeyes at night in November).
I'm not opposed to Michigan playing night games. I am opposed to Michigan playing night games to teams that don't warrant the exclusivity that we've ascribed to the event.

Night game after a bye. People will forget about the QB issues. The defense will be hungry and Sparty will be reeling after losing to Iowa. Pretty much time for the real Wolverines to show up and send little brother back to his closet.

Michigan's record in night games leaves a lot to be desired in recent memory. I know, Harbaugh has not been a part of that equation. And we are at home But it seems like even when Michigan wins they are playing close to teams they should blow out. Michigan State will already be up for this game...since they aren't relevant on a national scale anymore. This should, as one commentor put it, be a "curb-stomping". I hope they live up to that expectation.

I believe we're 3-0 in Big House night games.
D'antoniaoni can fill them with as much inferiority-complex bile as he wants; it's not going to matter because they're not good. Sparty will certainly play their dignified hearts out, though.

What time will the golf course open for a 7:30 kick?

There will be more fights. There will be ongodly traffic getting out of town. There will be vomit. Toe should meet leather at noon for both Sparty and OSU. That's all.

Dude, don't pull the pearls off your neck... It'll be okay!

my son and daughter are really looking forward to the night game. It'll be fun. in our section (43) it used to be painful with so many opposing fans getting tickets there. That's part of the past I do NOT miss. In recent years we have seen an increase in season ticket holders - very cool to experience.

No worries; all we gotta do is keep Big Bird's wing in a sling, unleash the attacking Bush, and turn Green over to Brown.

for a game I ever attended was the 4:30 kickoff game for MSU in 2008. Numerous encounters with people who had way too much to drink. Played dodge the drunk drivers on the highway all the way home. I can't imagine this is going to be better.

Maybe had something to do with our 3-9 season that year, plus MSU's RAGE off of the post 2007 game comments.
Very different background going into this year.

day that was extended due to the late kickoff and the opponent. That day the lots opened at 7am

And let's not forget that Braylonfest ended well after dark, and it wasn't a big deal.
The only bad thing that happened to me after that game was getting pulled over by an MSU fan who decided I was getting a ticket instead of a warning.

I think one game a year is fine and good for exposure and recruiting. Candidates for future early-B10 schedule night games...
2018 Nebraska 9/22
2019 Iowa 10/5
2020 Wisconsin 9/26 or Penn State 10/3
Seems like it's more up to the B10 and TV these days than the AD, but these all would be great under the lights.

MSU - 7

You think they score? I'm not so sure... Michigan will be ready for this game - I doubt anyone will want MSU to lose with dignity againt this year.

Reduced post-game bar and restaurant traffic in Ann Arbor. That's what they say anyhow.
All the rest is true.

So, good news for some on the board today - remote control lawn mowers are available in this day and age. No need for anyone, not even yourself, to walk across your lawn!
Thank God we get to see the Big House lights in action! Been waiting for a long time... I'd rather see a home game under the lights than another away game. Which is how we'll see PSU, and probably Wisconisin, this year.
September 25th, 2017 at 1:00 PM ^
Probably not Wisconsin.
Michigan has the ability to veto a night game in Madison if they'd like; and with OSU coming up the week after, I figure they will if the Badgers/networks want it.
TV networks are allowed to pick night games in Weeks 1-10, but Week 11 onwards (which coincides with the second weekend of November) the Big Ten schools have veto power. Therefore, the last game this year that Michigan can have a night game without expressly approving it is the Minnesota matchup.
If Maryland or Wisconsin wanted to play UM at night they'd need Warde's approval (he and Harbaugh seem to hate night games).
September 25th, 2017 at 4:09 PM ^
I faintly remember talk during the offseason about UM only having to do one night game at home per year...so this would eliminate the Minnesota game if true. Can someone confirm or deny this?

Just a few years ago our coach was Brady Hoke. In year 1, Harbaugh had us in a position to win against a State team that might've been better than us.
Sure, I expect to see lots of gimmicks, shenanigans, and angst from Sparty, but that can only make up for so much.

They'll probably luck their way to one or two drives. Just like Purdue. Then...BEATINGS

Maybe we get Fowler and Herbstreit?
Edit: They may go to LSU/Florida if that's not the 3:30 CBS game. But FSU/Miami is likely our biggest competitor. I bet they play at night as well.
OSU v. Maryland would be the only other contender and Michigan/MSU is a rivalry game, it's Michigan Stadium which doesn't do it often...they're out.
My guess is we'll play at 7:30 and get Herbstreit and Fowler...however, Herby will be coming from Ft. Worth for Gameday (TCU vs. WVU) or Tallahassee (FSU vs. Miami). FSU/Miami will be 3:30 ABC game. Then LSU/Florida will be the late ESPN game. Bama/Texas A&M is the 3:30 CBS game. Lastly, TCU and WVU will go 8p on FOX.
September 25th, 2017 at 1:26 PM ^
The schedule has been essentially released so we can confirm a few things.
TCU/WVU will be on FS1 at 3:30 (weird pick here). LSU/Florida is on CBS, and Maryland/OSU is on FOX in the 4:00 window. There go a few obstacles.
So basically it comes down to FSU/Miami or our game, and our game will likely win out since FSU/Miami appears to be in a reverse window situation (and it starts at 3:30).
