via @cjzero, obviously

I can't. I just... I can't. Thank you, Northwestern, for being Northwestern.

Consider this an open thread to celebrate(!) a victory(!!) featuring multiple touchdowns!!!

(Shhhhhhh, don't ruin it by mentioning the multiple overtimes part.)

That's not true.  The rule:

While in the process of substitution or simulated substitution, Team A is prohibited from rushing quickly to the line of scrimmage with the obvious attempt of creating a defensive disadvantage. If the ball is ready for play, the game officials will not permit the ball to be snapped until Team B has placed substitutes in position and replaced players have left the field of play. Team B must react promptly with its substitutes.

Defenses are given the chance to substitute.  Though in this case, I think the refs did the right thing because our kicking team wasn't rushing to the line to gain an advantage on the defense, we just wanted to get the snap off.

It was the best special teams play I have ever seen. Just amazing. Dileo actually slid into the perfect position 7 yards behind the center. Gallon made a perfect toss to the ref who turned and tossed it to the other ref who ran and placed the ball. Everything just worked to perfection. Oh yeah, and Gibbons made a great clutch kick.

My favorite part was that Gibbons NAILED it.  No wobbly duck that just made it over the crossbar, no clanging it off the post, just a cannon shot straight and true.

Maybe we should run our field goal unit like that every time?  Don't give Gibbons time to even think about brunette girls out there...

Question for the board: after the win, a Facebook friend (who is usually a Michigan fan, but lives in Evanston) posted a negative comment about the slide, and alluded to us being no better than an SEC team. I know nothing about the rules regarding setting up for a field goal or sliding into place. What gives with this?

I thought Dileo aquitted himself well after the heinous dropped pass earlier with that nifty slide-and-set.  What puzzles me is why has it been that he's seen the ball only twice in the last month, each on occassions late in the fourth quarter with the game hanging in the balance?

Watching NW beat Michigan for most of the game the way they did was like watching someone take three hours to kill a baby seal by clubbing it with a soup spoon.  But then Michigan un-botched its last drive with its almost oddly well-prepared last-second field goal, and the spoon now belonged to the seal.

It's hard to think of a similar Michigan win.  RR's victory over Wisconsin in '08?

It wasn't pretty, but I'll take it.  I love that the players didn't walk into the game hanging their heads.  DG is a tough guy, whatever his flaws as a QB.

I wouldn't compare this to Wisconsin '08.  That was an ass-kicking that turned into a close game.  This was a game we were never out of, but it looked like NW was going to scrape by.  NW only scored nine points in regulation, and never led by more than six.  Our D played a hell of a game for four quarters.  It just needed the offense to step up, and finally it did.

on third down conversions .

Al Borges in another effort to come up with depressing documentary titles. 9 points in regulation. This did not undercut the fire borges movement at all. I think it undercut the fire Funk movement. I never supported(/still don't support) the firing of Funk btw.

Can you guys be HAPPY for a minute about anything?  I thought the guys on Mlive were morose enough even when things started turning around...

it was a BEAUTIFUL win.  And I need to find a replay of that field goal and watch it a few hundred times.  Have any of you, ever, ever seen anything like that in football, ever?  EVER!?

They practiced for it!!  I NEED TO USE MORE CAPS!!  BEAUTIFUL!!

It's OK to be happy, really, promise!
