JT Floyd's Ankle: Probably Not So Good Comment Count

HAI GUYS I BET YOU LIKE GOOD NEWS. Troy Woolfolk's twitter:

Things just got worse for Michigan fans. Can't elaborate that's all I'm saying.

UMGoBlog's got a rumor that this is in reference to JT Floyd's ankle, supposedly in a nonfunctional state after practice today. Tom got an independently sourced email saying the same thing. Player on team saying bad news + two different sources with identical stories about what that bad news is == 99% true e-rumor.

So JT Floyd is probably done for the year. One of three freshman will start opposite James Rogers. I'm working my way through the Penn State game tape and am not sure how much this actually hurts but it's not good. Your available non-freshman cornerback on the roster is James Rogers. That is all.

UPDATE: Woolfolk is hurriedly backtracking, which may be CYA but may not. Downgrade your likelihood somewhat here. I probably wouldn't have posted this without that third bit but the two standing are melding with other stuff around the internets and this is still likely to be true.

UPDATE II: So the "out for year" bit seems unknown. Definitely out for Saturday, though.

I don't think it hurts that much for the next game as the Illini are not a competent passing team and will likely be running with success.  But I'm really worried about bowl eligbilty as I can totally see Purdue airing it out with a third stringer.

They include Rob Henry (RS Fr) with a crushed finger on his throwing hand and the guy they subbed in for him on obvious throwing downs. The guy they subbed in, true freshman, is currently 13/30 with something ~2.5 YPA. Not that this means anything, Matt MF'n McGloin and all.

but I really don't see how this changes anything with our defense. Wide receivers running around uncovered all over the field does not change when the person not covering is a Freshman or a Sophomore. There is no amount of suck you can add to infinite suck to make it suck more. Again, I feel for Floyd, but this is a non story for the team.

RR's fault. Fire him. No excuses.

Seriously, this sucks for Floyd. He's put in so much effort this year, given his all for this team, and this just plain sucks. He doesn't deserve this.

losing your top 2 corners to season-ending injuries is never going to be anything but incredibly devastating

but in theory, JT could be the one now coming in to replace warren or turner had they stayed here and gone down in week 9 - leaving us in a much better position than we will be now

Like everyone else here reading the blog I can't speak to what was or wasnt said or done behind closed doors with these two, emilien or any of the other recent transfers.

That being said, they aren't here and we're hurting because of it

The players are having to work for something for once in their lives.  At Michigan they aren't the All-Sate, All-Conference stud anymore.  They are a small fish in a big pond.  Entitlement is killing us.  That is all. (you don't see Molk looking to walk)

NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!!!  Actually, I am only 31.

If Bo ever lost as many as two games in a season, the Ann Arbor Torch and Pitchfork Company was out in full force.

Michigan fans have been a bunch of whiny brats thinking they're entitled to 10 win seasons every year just because they're Michigan for as long as I can remember (back to '69 or so).  I'm finding the "Fire Rodriguez" nonsense quite amusing.

Do most teams have a dozen non-underclassmen backups that could step in at any time? Have we seen Turner, Vlad, or any of the other losses via attrition pan out somewhere else? Did Donovan Warren suddenly come out in a press conference and say that he would have stayed if RR hadn't run him off?

Sure, Rodriguez should have put a bit more effort into recruiting in the secondary, but good heavens. It's not like RR told a bunch of instant contributors to take a hike.

Every team in the country, even the best ones, have certain position with less depth than others.  CB was that for us a year ago.  Any team that has one position group where - their best player leaves early for the draft, their next best player is out for the season before it starts and their third best player goes out for the season halfway through conference play - is going to be in trouble.

Looks like these freshmen will get a lot of good experience this season (half full).

I guess we used up all of our CB luck for a while with Woodson, Law, Jackson and Hall.

At this point, I think I still have some eligibility remaining.  I'm a moderately-fast 6'0" 29-year-old who never played HS football.  That would make me 4th on the 2-deep and a possible option during Nickel coverage.

on the bright side, with no defesive improvement this year Brandon can't deny that injuries have decimated the secondary and the season here on out is kind of a bad sample to judge RR on.  maybe he will get another year even with beatings here on out

Well, had this happened at the beginning of the season like Troy Woolfolk then I would probably be smashing my face into every object imaginable, but right now it doesn't even matter.  Michigan's defense with him was horrendous, without him will still be horrendous.

I hope he gets better soon so we can have depth on this football team but if it's season ending, look on the brightside we'll get both of our CB's back for next season, no?
