Weekend Visitors: Three Uncommitted '16s To Take Officials

While next weekend's Michigan State game will be a bigger recruiting event for Michigan, there are a few notable visitors coming in for tomorrow's game. Allen Trieu has a free overview of the three uncommitted official visitors set to be at the game tomorrow; those prospects:

  • Three-star NJ WDE Quayshon Alexander, a Nebraska commit. While Michigan is sitting pretty for four-star CO WDE Carlo Kemp, they're still making a strong push for guys who could project to the BUCK spot, and Alexander fits the bill.
  • Three-star FL TE Jacob Mathis has been near the top of M's board at tight end for a while. Florida appears to be the main competition. One advantage for the Wolverines: former M kicker Garrett Rivas is Mathis' high school coach.
  • Three-star TX WDE Levi Onwuzurike hasn't let on much about his recruitment, but he could be another option at BUCK.

Several current commits will take their officials this weekend, including a crew from New Jersey—Brad Hawkins, Ron Johnson, and Ahmir Mitchell—who'll likely work on recruiting Alexander.

This late-breaking news also seems worth mentioning:

Walker had significant interest in Michigan before the Hoke era drew to a close; he committed to Ohio State in January, when Jim Harbaugh was desperately cobbling together a full 2015 class. Walker visiting Ann Arbor is a sign there's still legitimate interest. Steve Wiltfong reports it will be an official visit ($).

This even-later-breaking news, reported by Wiltfong, will also be of interest:

247Sports has learned that Top247 linebacker Devin Bush Jr. will visit Michigan this weekend for the Northwestern game.

It's an unofficial visit.

That is especially intriguing since Bush is paying his way for a visit from Florida, leaving open the opportunity to visit again on an official visit. Michigan looks to be in very good shape with one of their top remaining targets on the board.

According to 247's Steve Lorenz, several 2017 in-state targets will also be in attendance: TE Carter Dunaway (commit), OT JaRaymond Hall, WR/CB KJ Hamler, WDE Corey Malone-Hatcher, OLB Josh Ross, and RB/CB Allen Stritzinger. Hall's 2018 teammate Marquan McCall, a talented offensive lineman, will also be on campus, as will a pair of promising 2019 quarterbacks in Southfield's Sam Johnson and Belleville's Dwan Mathis.

MSU Weekend Adding Visitors

I'll have much more on the big MSU visit weekend next week. Meanwhile, big-time prospects are still adding their names to the visitor list.

Three-star ATH Korey Banks, a UNC commit, will take an official that weekend, as reported by Garrett Fishaw.

Michigan's top 2017 quarterback target, four-star Dylan McCaffrey, will also be in attendance, per Lorenz ($). Steve also reports recently offered 2017 three-star TN RB Chase Hayden will take an unofficial for the State game ($).

In other visit news, Scout's Chad Simmons reports four-star LA ATH Shyheim Carter set an official visit for the Rutgers game. Carter will be a very tough pull from SEC country; getting him on campus is a start.

Though nothing has been set yet, Michigan is also pushing to get 2016 three-star GA TE and Alabama commit Miller Forristall up for a visit, per Lorenz ($):

"I think there's a pretty good chance that I visit," he said. "I should know within the next couple days what my plans are going to be with Michigan."

Forristall made his initial commitment to Alabama just a day after Michigan offered him this summer, but it looks like M will get an opportunity to change his mind.

Etc.

Brandon Peters looks to be in line for a jump in the Rivals rankings after earning a mention in Josh Helmholdt's "Five Up, Two Down" post ($):

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Peters started out as a four-star prospect and has been ranked in the Rivals250 from the beginning. Arm strength and the ability to play his best at crucial times were recognized early in his evaluation, but throughout his junior season and at the Rivals Quarterback Challenge last April, accuracy was a big question mark. In the first half of his senior season, though, the Michigan commit has shown a much more consistent release and it is resulting in much better accuracy. Through seven games he has completed 62.1 percent of his passes and thrown 23 touchdowns against just two interceptions.

Michael Onwenu is one of the stock down guys, though for reasons that seem irrelevant to his college career; Helmholdt's criticisms focus on his blocking on the edge as a high school left tackle, which won't be an issue when he's playing guard at Michigan.

Michigan now holds the lead for one of their recent offers, 2017 three-star SC TE Logan Rudolph, per Lorenz ($):

"Coach Jay [Harbaugh] hit me up on Twitter last night and said they had watched my film for the first time yesterday and were really, really impressed," he said. "He told me they loved my physicality and my versatility at the position too. Then today, he and Jim Harbaugh called my head coach and talked to him for about half an hour or so. Coach texted me and told me that Michigan had offered and told me to call Jay when I got a chance. I actually walked out of class and called him in the bathroom at school (laughing). He told me again about how much interest they had in me and that they'd love to have me as a part of their program."

When you gotta go, you gotta go.

Michigan also offered top-100 2017 AL WR Nico Collins this week. Collins holds Alabama and Auburn offers, so adjust expectations accordingly. The Wolverines also made another foray into Prattville (AL) High School, offering 2018 WR Cameron Taylor, per The Wolverine's Tim Sullivan ($).

If you were wondering which program would emerge as most likely to wrest away top-100 2016 OG Terrance Davis, it appears the answer to that is Florida; 247's Steve Wiltfong reports the Gators are now tied with the Wolverines atop Davis' list ($).

Most sewage is already a liquid so, by definition, it cannot melt.It is already a liquid!

However, poop can't melt because it will undergo many chemical changes before it liquifies. By the time it is hot enough for "liquid poop", the chemicals have decomposed.

Of course, you can just go to Taco Bell if you want to make liquid poop.

act much like salt in the way it lowers the melting temp of poop in said cooler. I believe it's: 198 degrees without a cooler and 98 degrees within a cooler. Amazing to have a full 100° change by simply placing it in a cooler of any model!

Obvious comment for the day, but a win these next 2 weeks would accelerate the number of recruits who all of a sudden have legitimate interest and/or who actually commit.  Go Harbaugh!

I believe a lot of high-profile kids out there (whether 2016 or beyond) have been holding back getting seriously interested in Michigan until they see if the Harbaugh effect is real or not  The last several weeks have helped.  But, if we win the next two weeks, I think we'll see a big boost in interest by highly rated kids.  How soon that translates into commitments, we'd have to see.

I really hope we can hold onto the lead with Terrance Davis.  We need another top OL in this class.   I'm trying not to get too excited about Kareem Walker yet, but I'm having a lot of difficulty on a Friday.

contagious.  Wanting to play for  one of the top NFL and CFB coaches who can both win and make you into a NFL player isn't just contagious, it's addictive.  It's ust the beginning of a lot of good years.

If you would have told me before the season started that Michigan v. Northwestern would be a top 25 matchup with this many high profile visitors.... I would've laughed you off MGOBLOG. This is great news. It will be even better news with wins the next two weeks!

Played him and 3 other football players in CCRB hoops once. As our 3rd biggest player (and undersized 4/5, who had great old-man-post-moves as a 22 year old) I guarded their 3rd biggest player. Not Rivas. It was an OL, 2 TEs, Rivas and a random kid. at 5'11" and 195 I did not guard Mike Massey very effectively.

Rivas seemed like a good guy though, referred to himself as a "fat kicker" when getting water after the game. He was a good kicker and obviously self depricating.

Edit: Cool story bro /self

Tell you what man, this first month of Harbaugh has gone just about as perfect as possible.  All signs now point to Michigan being able to end it's perennial reign as blue chip brides' maids (Peppers and others notwithstanding).

Kids are seeing a team that is winning, coached by a staff with deep NFL roots and ties, coached by a staff that is quite obviously showing itself to know how to coach kids "up," oh, and joining the winningest team in football with the coolest uniforms, best tradition, biggest stadium, oh, and potentially offering them a damn good degree if bad luck strikes their NFL plans.

So proud to be a Wolverine these days.  Coach may not end up recruiting all the blue chips because his eye for talent will probably be better than all of the recruiting services out there, but when he does go after the 5 stars, I really like our chances now.

GO BLUE.
