Caleb Stacey Decommits

Submitted by Ace on January 21st, 2012 at 6:17 PM

I'll have more on the ramifications of this during the week, but 2012 OL Caleb Stacey announced on Twitter today—and it has been confirmed by multiple sources—that he has switched his commitment from Michigan to Cincinnati:

An assistant coach at Cincinnati Oak Hills, Stacey's high school, told The Wolverine that Stacey wanted to stay closer to home ($), and that was the reason for the switch. Michigan now has 23 commits in the current class with room to take up to five more players, and they are among the finalists for three offensive line recruits: Josh Garnett, Jordan Diamond, and Alex Kozan. It's feasible that the coaching staff could take all three, bringing the total to seven offensive linemen in the class, if they desired to do so.

I hope you all will join me in wishing Caleb the best of luck at Cincinnati.

That's a bummer.

He's someone that I was initially underwhelmed by because of his star ranking, but, the more I read about his game, he really grew on me and I was excited he was part of the class.

Best of look to him.  Have fun in college, man!

Best of luck to him. I certainly don't blame him for wanting to be closer to home. He may have also considered that he might not get to play much here, especially if we end up landing garnett and diamond, and essentially put together an all star group of o-linemen.

Our loss is Cinci gain, Family and friends are important and you seem to have thought this out. You have gone about this in a quiet and deliberate manner and have taken the course which will give you  the best chance for peace and growth as a student athelete. We are not happy to see you go but are happy your timing was proper so you will not lose time. We will follow your career and best of luck to you. Go Blue

Being a UC grad born in AA to a UM grad gives me a bit of perspective on both places.

  • A year ago, UC was coming of a pretty depressing 1st season under Butch Jones. Things have changed dramatically in a year and they have a young base that will only improve.
  • UC has a great on campus setting for football and a modern urban campus that shows really well. On campus games certainly help. UC basketball was king forever and they are back in the national spotlight.
  • He is deep in the queue at UM and likely would not see the field for at least 2 years and even then likely as a back-up.

Reality likely struck home. He is a better fit at UC. Good luck

When I was making my college choice, I was highly considering going to SVSU, but chose to go to EMU instead because I decided my heart was still in Washtenaw/Wayne county, and I didnt even have a gf or an ill family member at the time. My point is, sometimes its just too hard to leave your life behind to go off to a distant school. Live long and prosper, Caleb.
