2011 Student Football Season Ticket Prices

Submitted by bdsisme on

Students just received the annual email announcing the student ticket prices.  Basketball ($99 with purchase of football tickets, $125 otherwise) and hockey ($215) stayed about the same, while there has been a significant jump in football student season ticket prices:

2008: $195

2009: $210

2010: $207

2011: $250

I know that us students shouldn't complain because they are MUCH cheaper than "regular" seats (and can probably be sold for much more than $250).  Nonetheless, it is a significant uptick. (Finally, an interesting point of comparison: student season tickets at Florida are $70.)

EDIT: As BlueInTheFace notes, we do have 8 home games this season, but it is still $30 per game (plus $10 service charge), whereas last year I believe it was $27 a game.

All students at Florida are not guaranteed season tickets.  In fact, I think they sell them  in blocks of games, not all of the games.

UF uses a lottery system that students have to enter to be eligible for tickets and no preference is giving towards seniors compared to lowly freshman. Plus they individually sell the Georgia game since it is always played in Jacksonville.

It just works out to being like this: University of Michigan > University of Florida

I'm fine with the price when looking at the schedule. Night game nebraska osu. Not to mention the student section is the best section to sit in

Correction: The student section is the best section to stand in.

In 2006 my Freshman year tix were $25 a pop. Came to like 200 dollars including the t-shirt...and we won every home game that year. Good times :)

That's about triple what I paid when I was a student a decade ago.  They've got to be careful not to price students out.  Student tickets should be cheap.  You want to bring in as many students as you can, to get as many people hooked on the Michigan football experience as possible. (And then you can shake 'em down when they're graduates and have jobs.)

I wonder if they've been planning this for a while or if it has anything to do with the proposed state budget cuts?  I can't really believe that it is, but I can't see the justification for raising prices on students so much other than we'll still pay it.

Football seems a little high to me, but $215 for hockey!?  That seems ridiculous to me.  I may not have went to a big school (Ferris State '09) but we're in the same conference and I don't remember  tickets being over 85 bucks.

God I wish I could bitch about buying season tickets. I put aside a grand every year to scalp and buy some off students. Its rough but I somehow managed to get into the greatest stadium in the land to watch my Michigan Wolverines.

Football and hockey tickets are about the only significant indulgence I get in college because I get no help from home and our wonderful financial aid office like to give me a number several thousand smaller than their estimated cost, also including a work-study I can't use because I can't afford to stay on campus or anywhere as near the city, negating any ability for me to hold a job without starving and running on 4 hours of sleep.

Tack on gas prices making that whole commuting thing not cheaper anymore, and I'm pretty furious that they're raising RR's buyout off the students. Nobody bleeds our students like we do. I've dealt with it for the last three years, but now there's a real chance it's going to screw me out of tickets for my senior year.
