I am so pumped for this doc!  It'll be homework material required watchign for my two young sons.

And hopefully we can watch this in the midst of another young UM team not shocking, but surprising the NCAA MBB world.

Jalen, love you.

I can't wait. It should be really good. Is Webber a part of it? I heard he is not. anyone else hear this. It would be better if he was. I bet he writes a book some day, I would buy it,

All that's left is to let Webb back in the building.  If you think he won't be a recruiting/program asset, then you're nutty.  If today's kids forgot about the Fab5, then this will be a nice little reminder.  I was a freshman with the Fab5 and can't wait for a return to power for the program.  Attitude.  Attitude.  Attitude.  They were the best.  My top two college bball teams ever - the Running Rebs and the Fab 5!

I feel kinda bad for the youngsters who have yet to experience winning football or basketball.  Hold tight...it's coming back...in both sports!

Lemme tell you...student section from the floor to the rafters...deafening noise...dominant performances.  The first game that all five were on the court together was Duke, freshman year.  The place went bonkers.  We lost, but (I think) in double OT.  We were supposed to get rocked.  If you look back, you'll see a series of plays were Webb dunks on Laettner three times in a row.  The shit talking is the best part.  Before the first dunk, he told Laettner that he was going to dunk on him three times in a row.  Then he did it.  We can be a serious program like that again...just need a few more kids to go blue.

used to go to those games.  And he'd bring his WHOLE entourage.  It was ridiculous.  That's what is so crazy about these recruits going to other schools and getting blown away by the atmosphere.  If one of those recruits went to a Fab Five game, they'd never be the same.  It was that crazy.

or get recruited by Michigan. This is a highly sought after tickets back in the days.  Far cry from where it has been for the past few years.  You never know which recruits are genuinely interested in going to Michigan or they just want to see the Fab 5 play live in person.

I have to admit, I was just over a year old when this game happened. But I have of course heard of the Fab 5 legend (and read the Mitch Albom book about them).

This game was epic, and fortunately, the entire game has been posted on Youtube for prosperity! It is definitely worth watching if you have a spare 2 hours - I was going to do my econ homework two nights ago but found the game and watched. It was definitely an exciting game, and electric to watch the flashes of brilliance from the freshmen. At the same time, they were young players and you could really tell Duke was a more disciplined, well-oiled machine. Michigan was able to get players like Grant Hill in foul trouble, however, and made one hell of a game of it.

So if you have 2 hours, it'd be a good way to get in the spirit for the movie...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:  Michigan would show zero integrity inviting Chris Webber back into the program after his mandatory 10-year disassociation is complete.

You don't celebrate a guy who took hundreds of thousands of dollars from a booster, setting in motion a scandal that would cause the forfeiture of all or part of six seasons of basketball, and who has shown absolutely no remorse or regret about it.   Period.

The other four are more than welcome, but Webber, no thanks.

Hard to disagree with some of your premise, but let me tell you man... it's also hard to forget the awesome memories that all 5 of those young men gave us for 2 of the most enjoyable years of my life as a michigan fan.

Let's not forget Chris is not the only one that took money. Though I agree that i disapproved of his handling of the situation in the aftermath.

The Fab 5 and Desmond Howard are the reason i'm a Michigan sports fan (born and raised in Milwaukee and Chicago). I will never forget the awesome time it was, though it seemed to end even quicker than it sprung upon us and began.

Let's re-kindle some of that magic and swagger this saturday and beat down sparty!!!!!

No matter how you feel about C-Web, nothing can happen until Jan 2013 (See Dave Brandon's Comments at http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-basketball/in-bringing-back-jimmy-kin… ).  At this point, if C-Web reaches out to the University (a nice little donation to Mott wouldnt hurt) then I think the Athletic Dept. should welcome the man back. Yes, he screwed up, royally.  However, our MBB Program has been fairly pathetic for the past 15 years and, in my opinion, we need to get this guy back into the fold so he can help on the recruiting trail a little bit. I am sick and tired of constantly losing basketball recruiting battles to Sparty and that school down south.

Go blue! Beat State tomorrow!!!

That article contradicts the 2013 statement:

The NCAA ruled that Michigan must distance itself and not recognize any of the players until 2012.

I think 2012 is the proper year.  In any event, he's going to be welcomed back soon enough and it'll be a great thing for the program.

Not too big on forgiveness, are you Bando?  Yeah, what Webber did was wrong, but he was 18.  I still wear my Webber jersey proudly, because (a) I remember what it was like to watch him and it was amazing, and (b) I don't know if I wouldn't have done the same if I were in his shoes at 18.  Kids make mistakes, especially when it involves a lot of money.

Personally, I would love for Webber to be a part of the program again.  It would do us a lot of good.

And he's been an adult for every single year since, when he has failed to show even a shred of remorse for what his actions did to the University of Michigan basketball program.

I'm sorry, as exciting as he was at Michigan, I will not budge an iota on the fact that based not only on his actions at the University, but also in his lack of regret, he has earned a permanent cold shoulder from this program.  And he can't buy off nearly two decades of indifference with a check to Mott.

As for those arguing that Webber is good for recruiting:  You can't recruit for a program trying to win doing things the right way by trotting out the biggest example of the period of time when your program was caught cheating.  You just can't.  I don't care how many points he scored, how baggy his shorts were, or how bald his head was.  Those things were all outweighed by the thousands and thousands of thousands of dollars he took from Ed Martin, all while telling anybody within earshot how he thought the University was unfairly making money off of his stardom while he wasn't allowed to.

Forgiveness is one thing.  Recognizing that the person being forgived doesn't care one way or the other is another.

I can understand that you're upset, but the guy has done the time...10 years?  He was the hub of the most exciting college basketball team we may ever see (although UNLV makes a strong argument).

There's a hallway from the court to the locker rooms and whatnot.  In that hallway, there are photos are the top players of years gone by.  Webber's spot is empty (or maybe they have a gold block M there).  Anyway, it's a creepy reminder.  Porbably time for everyone to get over it and let Chris be Chris.  He's a solid dude and will do wonders for the program and its attempts to recruit powerful big men.

Are you seriously trying to compare one of the best eras of Michigan basketball(scratch that...best eras of college basketball) to the worst era in the history of Michigan football??? Violations are always bad and if you stalked me a bit better you'd know that I think the football violations were minor despite their "major" label. Of course, they are blemishes upon both programs. In one instance, kids are blamed. In the other, adults are blamed. In any event, let's say it again - bball was historic and amazing. Football was historically terrible. It's easier to get by a negative surrounded by positives than a negative in a sea of terrible.

Is Bando Calrissian aware of world hunger? Homelessness? Genocide? The plight of the working class?

I have to wonder because if he was, he might not be the sanctimonious prick he is about the Fab Five and the fact that one of them was linked to booster money.

It's sports, OK? The "integrity of Michigan" might be the most important thing in YOUR life, but some of us happen to be aware of real problems in the world and like things that are fun. The Fab Five was fun. PERIOD.

Getting nabbed by the NCAA for the then-largest financial scandal in NCAA history, a significant portion of that figure made up by money received by the Webber family?

Not fun.

Why do you go to such great lengths to defend Chris Webber, but not the other players who were implicated in the scandal?  Were they not exciting enough?  Or were they not famous enough?

Cheating isn't outweighed by how exciting or fun you were doing it.

I'm a 19 year old UM fan and I still remember the day my dad handed me Fab 5 by Mitch Albom.  I was probably 12 or 13 at the time and I read it in the course of 2 or 3 days.  Ever since then I've loved watching their highlights online and I can't wait for this movie.  If you haven't read the book it is strongly recommended.  Hopefully Morris, Morgan, Hardaway, Brundidge, Burke, Smotz, and Novak can bring half the intensity and attitude those guys did for the years to come.

...was just the title of the series of documentary films b/c it was 30 films celebrating 30 years of ESPN.  Obviously this can't be part of those 30 films, but it is an ESPN documentary film just as those were.  It will be interesting to see if they can continue to get the same level of film maker from here on.

Every other Big Ten program must absolutely cringe hearing about this show.  This is an awesome recruiting tool for us.  Our team from nearly 20 years ago is more legendary than any team that's played in the league since.  That's why you come to Michigan.
