OT - Friday Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by Blazefire on

I had a new one tonight at BWW in Monroe.

Arcadia Sky High Rye, on tap. It's a rye pale ale with really intense grapefruit flavors, but very smooth so they're not offensive. The notes said a variety of flavors were present, but all I could find was grapefruit, with a hint of peach in the nose. This was not unpleasant. In fact, it went exceptionally well with the carribian jerk wings, and I would highly recommend it. I've not had anything from Arcadia brewery before, but I'll be on the lookout for some other stuff.

You're getting a winged helmet with a bar in it?  Those who stay will be champions AND can order DRINKS?!

And you want to REMOVE the BAR?!

All of this in a Friday night drinking thread??

Enjoy the helmet, order a drink or two and brag that you've been to the bar in the helmet with wings...

Worse yet, he might start posting on MGoBoard.  The drunks are funny but sometimes they go nuclear and it gets crazy in a couple of threads at the same time.  The worst thing is when some guy decides to start responding to every post in the thread and he takes up all the space on the screen.

Also, it's hairiest not "harriest."

I'm going to a beer store here in VA tomorrow that is supposed to carry hundreds of beers from around the nation. I'm getting some Bell's and some other Michigan beer if I can find it, and some other favorites if I see 'em. I do want to try new beers, but it can be hard to choose.

So, anyone have a favorite I should look for?

I'm late to the party, but if you read this before you go, Goose Island Matilda, which you probably can't get out there, Arrogant Bastard Oaked Ale, Dogfish Head India Brown Ale, and anything from Great Lakes if you can get it, even if it is from Ohio. I would recommend the Dortmunder Gold.

Definitely Hopslam if you can get it, too.

Not sure what I'm drinking yet, but I'm headed to the Blue Lep with some friends to celebrate the Hockey win.

UPDATE: Ended up at Ashley's (a much better choice than Blue Lep), had some Viking Blod mead, Anchor Steam and a few double cream stouts. Wound up at a friend's place drinking PBR and playing Bitch Cup. A good night, I'd say.

I love these "Whatcha Drinkin'" threads!!  Makes me start googlin'!!  My goal is to try every beer ever....in one night.  The more I drink...the closer I think I get to my goal!!

Drinking an Ithaca Beer Company variety sampler.  It's...really hit and miss.  The Nut Brown and Cascazilla are awesome.  The Apricot Wheat and Cold Front?  Awful.

Thank the budget this is only available for very short period and I don't like it that much.  I love  Bell's and hopsy brew (in general), but Hopslam is a little over the top for me.  When I paid $17 for a sixer, I was torn between wanting to love it and wanting to hate it.  It turns out I am abivalent,  leaning towards too hopsy.  Admittedly, I haven't yet tried it on tap.  I have tried to brave the long wait for a table at Slowes a few times and to convince the wife to drag the family to Ashley's for dinner a few time recently (both attempts unsucccessful - Slowes food awesome - Ashleys - not so much) .  I am really jonesing for Dale's Pale Ale.  I can't find this anywhere local Northville area, but had it last summer while visiting friend in Milwaukee.

A little Grant's Scotch on ice, though darn the bad luck having to drive 15 miles to the only store in the area that carries it, just have to keep stocked...
