MgoBlog - The Next Generation
I've been a little quiet lately, just happy to read and gather info about the team and to some degree suppressing the typical need to offer 2 cents that add nothing to the conversation and only clog the pipes around here. But while reading all the latest on OMT (Our Man Tate) and especially during the Paulus fiasco, I noticed something...
There are a ton of new people around here-- people who are either new or have just been silent up until the spring. In many ways, I feel surrounded by strangers in a very comfortable place. Not that there's anything wrong with that at all-- Hello, I'm 60 and it's a pleasure to meet you. I love UM football like a kid loves dinosaurs, and I'm also really into sports branding and uniform design. I don't at all want to seem like I'm alienating anyone.
But what's happened to all the old regulars? Aside from Magnus, Glen Mason, the Chris's, WolvinLA, the Other Brian, Michigan Student, and a handful of others, I don't really recognize a lot of the names. And maybe I'm just not here as much as I used to be-- after all, it's offseason. But it's almost like going back to your old college bar in your late 20's... Like there's this brand new regime in here, and that's totally cool-- just wondering where some of the old guard has wandered off to.
And for the love a' Lloyd, what the hell happened to ChiTown???
Chitown had good comments. Where is that guy?
Chitown rode off into the sunset on a golden unicorn, as it were.
My guess is that there's a hot chick involved here. Tends to maim and/or kill the Internet Geek in anyone, at least for awhile.
Either that or Dex and the WLA threw him in a gulag.
lots of new people. most posts turn into pointless arguments.
i hope brian unveils a "poster filter" sometime.
It's like that Onion article: "When I first got to school this was the place for everyone to hang out. Now it's just overrun with freshmen."
Reminds me of, "I don't watch Bogart movies: they have too many cliches."
i've been thinking the same thing. it would be nice to have a post counter like a normal forum to tell the veterans from the newbies at a glance instead of looking at when they signed up.
I agree, except that lots of people just lurk, happy to read and learn... I, for example, have been reading for almost a year now (started last June, I believe) but was only compelled to register a few weeks ago.
I read for a long time and then registered and kept lurking; I've decided to post only recently.
Last I spotted ChiTown, he was commenting on Varsity Blue. TRAITOR!(sarcasm)

He changed his name to chiwolverine or something. But he is here.

I don't think that's him. The commenting style seems very different.

Chitown = dude
Chiwolverine = chick
Also, where the hell is RRerabeginsin2009? Is he McFarlin? I miss him and his comments.

is still around.
Visit the WLA, if you need your fix. A lot of us mingle over there where we dont obsess over the little things.....unless it has something to do with Lost or fantasy baseball.
You'll find a lot of oldtime mgo regulars over there.

this site's better off without the WLA a-holes. they always seemed to think their opinion was the only that had value.

... about Michigan fans??
April 21st, 2009 at 12:47 PM ^
Judging by this thread and by the "who's your favorite commenter" thread I think you are in the minority.
Yeah, but you know that the WLA used threats and brutal beatings to win the faux popularity of the people! Those Commie bastards hate blue-blooded Michigan things like night games, key-janglin', and Tate Forcier's hot white speed
Actually I was drugged with Zima and beaten to within an inch of my life by gsimmons for disagreeing. Never again.
As opposed to high school kids making garbage posts and reducing the quality of the boards? Um yeah....
ageism = racism
You're joking, right?
Best.
Post.
Ever.
I love preachy stupidity.

I miss ellipse man. He was fun.
I miss those guys. I loved Dex's rants. Sometimes I would say things intentionally to get him to go off into one...but alas, he never did.
I miss Chitown too. If you're reading this Chitown, call me................
Hi all. I've been looking to Brian for my everything Michigan for the four years I've been at U of M, but sadly, my time is drawing to a close. Having mentioned my loyalty and undying allegiance to Michigan Athletics, I realized that once I move to wherever my soon-unemployed ass ends up, I won't have people all around me with such a passion and devotion to the game of football as I have here. So, soon, you all will be the ones I will turn to when a new recruit commits, or when Michigan FINALLY beats Ohio State (sadly, has not happened in my time here.)
So I just wanted to introduce myself. You'll likely be seeing me around.
I'm one of these new generation guys that Six Zero is referring to and I just wanted to say that I'm glad to be here. It's nice to be able to post on a site like this full of useful info, colorful comments, and a simple love of the maize and blue. Anyways I just want to say thanks to the old guard for a nice welcome.

And posts like these are what drove the old guard crazy...
Wimps
It seems odd to see someone who registered here all of seven months ago talk about a generational shift.
Considering the first day available to sign up was last June, and the amount of people who sign up and how the site continues to grow, I'd say it's not that odd.
Most of us have been quiet for awhile, mostly out of frustration over trying to beat back some of the idiocy, partially because we have our own clubhouse (which you are all more than welcome to come join in- just bring it or risk being eaten alive), and also because it's the offseason. Most of what is talked about around here we discussed and disagreed upon and beat into the ground back in the days of Haloscan.
Registered comments did not exist before June 08. Before that, people commented and I lurked in that magical land called haloscan.
You don't have to recount the history of this site for me. It's just funny how internet "generations" are so short. A lot of our "veterans" seemed to arrive during the '07 season; that's when the comments section for Brian's posts exploded into unmanageable, rarely-on-topic behemoths.
Oh they were on topic. It's just that Brian's post was not the usual topic.
I'm thrilled that I was mentioned first.
That's the first time I've finished ahead of anyone in anything since I was the fattest kid in my fifth grade class.
I fell just short of the bronze...thanks a lot six zero.
Magnus, being the first one to come to mind isn't always necessarily a good thing.
As for you, LA-- actually I referenced two Chris's, so technically you're 5th not 4th.
I'd like to go on record that if you'd like to be ranked in a certain spot in future posts, I am very welcome to bribery.
How about this? If you continue to list me first, I won't beat you up.
Is that good enough or do I have to threaten broken bones/disembowelment?
(OT QUESTION: When one is disemboweled... is it possible to be re-emboweled? Doesn't exactly sound like a simple outpatient procedure.)
