The Votening Comment Count

Brian

It's come down to this.

finals

Mingo versus Macadangdang. Barkevious versus Iris. A man who spurned Michigan for LSU versus an actual recent alum. EDSBS vs MGoBlog. For the 2009 Name of the Year. I can't rightly tell you to vote one way or the other, because both are awesome. There are no real losers here, except Orson Swindle if Mingo loses. In that case he has to shave off all his chest hair and send me a parka made from it. (What will he do with the leftovers? Feed Africa.)

Vote. Vote well, and don't vote 7,000 times because that's not cool.

This is not just a silly contest. This is LSU vs. Michigan. They stole our coach (kinda), our recruit (kinda), but we won't let them steal away the glory of the Macadangdang.

Also, Iris is a sweet girl.

The state of Wyoming is split right now, 1 to 1. There must be another bored, tired and procrastinating grad student somewhere else on campus....that really loves Sir Barkevious.

Apparently, I work with the good Ms. Macadangdang; I received an instant message from her this morning. I was like "Boy, that name sure sounds familiar..."

Then this item is posted and it reminds me where I heard it before. She has my vote!

This is so true. If Mingo was playing at Michigan, I would have named my first dog Barkevious when I get a puppy this summer. Instead, I'm going with Yost.

I break it down thusly:

Mingo is a pretty tame last name no more worthy of NOTY honors than Iris.

With the lame portions of the names canceling each other out, it therefore comes down to Barkevious vs Macadangdang.

Both are ridiculous.

Barkevious's parents actually had a choice which cuts in his favor.

Macadangdang, as a surname, could live on and be passed to other generations, but if Iris marries and doesn't have a brother, the Macadangdang line ends with her.

There may be other Barkeviouses, but there may never be another Macadangdang. I say that carries the day for Iris.

It is very interesting to see the voting patterns. You can tell where the majority of Michigan grads (and hence readers of MGo) end up after school. MI, OH, MA, IL, CA (neck and neck), WY (?).. I think it is fascinating. This pretty much has boiled down to a MGo vs EDSBS poll, and our fearless needs that parkha. Iris, you are a friend of a friend, and you get my measly vote. Go Iris!

Iris was just shade too ordinary for Macadangdang to overcome. Plus I was imagining all the awesome chants a student section could do with Mingo.

If you look at the voting results, you'll notice that the map looks pretty similar to the 2008 election results, with "democratic" states voting for macadangdang, and "republican" states voting mingo.

While lovely Iris has surpassed the evil Mingo in the popular vote, she trails him 287-251 in the electoral college.

And this is even with giving every swing state to Iris (Montana, Alaska, Hawaii).

All is not lost. If we can pull a few more voters in just three 50-50 states (Vermont, Missouri, and Nevada) Lovely Iris gets across the line at 270 exactly and wins!

EDIT: link to poll

I'm not very well read on world religions. Does anybody practice a faith that says something bad will happen to the 6666th person to vote Macadangdang?

Misopogal is nervous for me, and Iris. But we've got Lady Morgan le Faye and a band of druids from Merlin standing by with seething stones and purging fire in case something goes wrong.
