starting qb against OSU?
Who do you want and/or predict as our starting QB when we play OSU at the end of the 09 regular season? any predictions for the end of the 2010 season?
I think its hard to say who I want to be the starter. If tate is the starter it could either mean that he was successful throughout the season, or that he sucked less than denard and sheridan. If denard is the starter, it could either mean he beat out Tate over teh summer, he beat out tate during the regular season, or tate sucked and denard was the only viable option. If sheridan starts were all in hell.
That being said, I predict Tate is our starter, primarily because i think it will take denard more than one summer to learn the entire offensive system.
i think, barring injury, both Tate and Denard will play.
Hopefully, all will go well and Tate will continue to develop over the summer. With the head start he has on Denard I believe it will be hard for Denard to win the starting job.
That said, I do believe there will be packages specifically for Denard and hopefully a package with both Tate and Denard in the game together.
I think Tate will be the starter and we'll bring in D-Rob at various spots throughout the game. Obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about, as D-Rob isn't even on campus yet....but this is ideal. Assuming he picks up the offense I think this is likely.
I think it would be sweet if they were both on the field at the same time. Especially if sometimes it was an occasional play where D-Rob was lined up at WR (because he IS an mf'in speed demon) and then a rare play where Tate threw it backwards to D-Rob and D-Rob threw it down field (assuming he can throw alright). Maybe vice versa too.
I hope/think Tate will be THE QB though, for 4 years, when it comes down to it.
Im going to have to agree with Adam. Granted Tate was playing against a mix of the 2nd/3rd string D, but his mechanics and speed suprised me. Some of those zips right on the money to roundtree really got me thinking hes the real deal. Starting to remind me of Colt McCoy.
It will be me. I will start and throw for 547 yards and we will win in 4 OTs (the entire starting secondary will be out with syphillis-induced blindness, thus we will need to score on every possession. Hence, the 547 yards.)
If Forcier is healthy, it'll be him. Our QBs have always seemed to get dinged up right before the OSU game recently however, so it could also be Sheridan, who I am certain will be the 2nd-string QB. Injuries are impossible to predict though, so bet on Forcier.
In my head, we'll be playing both plenty in the fall. A package for Tate, a package for D-Rob, and then mish-mash the two together during games to keep opposing teams completely off-balance.
Then there's also the tantalizing possibility of trick plays that are total mind-fucks with both in the backfield (shotgun formation), and the defense not even knowing who's getting the snap until the ball rockets back. Related: can you have two players call for the snap? I am personally unfamiliar with any rule on that.
One of our problems in recent years, as so many people have noted, was predictability. Running an offense like the above would make preparing for us surprisingly hard for other teams - but, we also need to execute it well.
There's no rule for who can and cannot call the cadence. No one has to (silent count) or you can have everyone doing it. A common trick play is when the QB is lined up in shotgun and calling the cadence, then a direct snap to a running back.
Will really only work if Robinson is decent in the passing game (i'm assuming forcier will be decent). If teams know that when Robinson is on the field, UM isn't going to be throwing much then there really won't be much of a surprise with the two different packages.
probably tate but no one knows how good denard will be yet. i hope we see some denard next season
he's not a very good passer at this point and as good (edit: fast) of a runner as he is he's smaller than tate. he'll play but i fully expect tate to start.

Denard's speed. I hope he is awesome and can play qb at the college level, but I expect, if Tate stays healthy, that no one else plays a down at QB all year. Why have separate packages if Tate can run and is clearly the better QB? Fuck the wildcat.

You're right, his speed is awesome, although I thought I heard he "only" ran the second fastest time in the 100 this year. But I mean that his speed is only one measure of his ability to play quarterback at the college level and while I have heard he has a live arm, I don't believe he will be anywhere as ready to be a quarterback in college as Tate. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing a different position in college in a few years if Tate stays healthy especially since Gardner is coming.

I don't think he'll be as ready as Tate either though.

I'm having trouble thinking all the way ahead to OSU. I just want September to be here...
Can you say Pat White and WV. Terrible passing game, but great offense based on pick your poison- White or Slaton. Personally, from highlights I've watched I'm not that worried about Denard's arm or passing as he will be put into situations that will make him successful.
I still believe Tate will be the starter and unless he gets hurt will remain there. As for Devin Gardner, he has a way to go as his mechanics are bad (reminds me of VY). He will improve this year and I believe there is a possibility of a redshirt if Tate does what I think he will. That would give Devin two years to work on his throwing motion and I think he will develop into a fantastic QB for U of M.
In Pat White's four years, he completed 57%, 66%, 67%, and 66% of his passes. Last year - against high school competiton - Denard completed 43% of his attempts. The comparisons are premature.

i think ur forgetting the fact that denard had about a 42% pass completion percentage in high school. from what iv heard its not that hard to look good in a 2 minute highlight compilation of your whole career.
