Blago strikes again?: Tate on Campus
Al "Blago" Golden looks on the verge of striking again. Tate is saying there's a good chance he becomes a Cane. Probably a good fit for Tate since Miami missed out on Brisset after signing day.
Tate will probably be the presumptive starter in 2012 if he commits.

The average Miami student barely sees the inside of a classroom. I'm guessing the stable of semi-professional athletes down there is much the same way.

My poppa is a Cane.. so I have a love for the U (I also live in Miami now too, so that doesn't hurt).
Over the last decade or so, they've really done a good job at getting their academics up, and it's nice to see an UG make it to Mich law school. Seriously, go you.
Moving the team to pro-player was a mistake, even worse that ridiculous contract they signed for it (I wish they'd done something with the new marlin stadium instead.. probably wishful thinking but that stadium is shaping up nicely). I'm looking forward to seeing the Golden area, almost as much as the Hoke.. def interesting times to be a' UM + U-M fan.

The loss of the Orange Bowl was quite tragic, especially considering it was knocked down to build an ostentatious stadium for the Marlins (at the taxpayers expense). Ending the run at the OB was made worse by the shellacking from Virginia in the last game.
Interesting is a nice way of putting the last few years of being a fan of both programs, but I'm real hopeful for the future of both my programs. Love Golden's efforts in a short time recruiting, HATE that he took Mich commits to do so. Strangely enough, Dallas Crawford might be more needed in Miami, Brandon Mcgee being the only remaining DB with starting experience.
Let's just hope there's no more Saturdays with loses to both MSU and FSU or 0-2 bowl seasons. And for the sake of my sanity, no more snatched recruits from here in Ann Arbor.

This should be interesting. If Tate couldn't fight through the distractions in Ann Arbor, I'm not sure how successful he'll be in Coral Gables.

He'd be a VERY good fit there and would be at a high profile FCS program. But Miami is a much bigger stage and if he can nail down the starting job there it's a good situation for him. The only problem is I was hoping to root for his team when it didn't play UM, him playing for the U ruins that.

I was going to say the same thing. Stephen Morris, while not as highly rated as Forcier out of HS, very well could be the returning starter come 2012, and would have two years of eligibility remaining. It's obviously very possible that Tate could beat all-comers for the starting nod but it's far from a sure thing.

liked Morris and his future as a Canes starting QB. He was better than Jacory Harris who is a INT machine. Stephen Morris apparently wanted to come to Michigan but Devin Gardner was the #1 priority. He was at Michigan camp in his senior year when he was the fastest QB and has the best overall arm. Apparently, he has connection with Michigan.

For the main reason I wasn't too worried about Denard transferring, there is no guarantee for a starting position waiting for him. He has to sit out a year and then compete for his starting job. While I am not that familiar with the Miami QB situation, I do know that the Rutgers kid just transferred there. Also who is to say that Miami doesn't recruit the next big thing at QB. As a junior transfer, who has sat out a year, if you don't hit the ground running when you are finally eligible to play, your window quickly slams shut. An injury or a bad week of practice (or poor grades in Tate's case!!) and the program is on to the next thing. He is better off at Montana, playing right away.
I hope he makes it cuz he is nothing if not exciting. I look forward to watching him play.

I agree with everything you've said here, with one caveat: Tom Savage has not decided on a transfer location yet. I actually would be kind of surprised if he ended up at Miami, especially if Forcier beats him to it. It that happens, then he'd be fighting against another redshirt junior in Tate, along with a true junior in Stephen Morris, plus any 2012 recruits.
This says that Savage was most recently checking out Arizona.

If Forcier wants to beat the odds and play in the NFL, he'll have to improve a lot as a QB. Competing for the starting job is a good way to do that.

So I'm a little foggy on my understanding of APR.. If Tate transfers to Miami U (fl) , does this have any impact on Michigan in terms of APR?

Depends. If he had a 2.6 or better (looks like cumulative), Michigan should be in the clear. Sounds like that might not be the case.

Unless Golden is making a statement by not recruiting as many Dade/Broward kids as usual this year, there is still a very good chance that Forcier will have a hard time starting at Miami because of the Dade/Broward clique on the team. It's looking to me that Golden may be trying to lessen their influence on the rest of the team, but they are a "tradition" there.
This year's incoming class had only five Dade/Broward recruits, and Dallas Crawford is from Ft Meyers, which sorta gets to be an honorary part of Broward County because it counts as "South Florida."
Anyway, back to the clique, they usually play harder for "their guys" than they do for "outsiders." Some "outsiders" make it "in," but it is pretty difficult for many. Since Forcier apparently loves to party and has a good swagger when things are going well, he may fit in well enough to be accepted by them, but I think it's more of a crapshoot than he should take with the rest of his football career.
If Golden gets them playing as one team with no factions, I will be a lot more impressed than I am with him for the mere accomplishment making MIchigan recruits disappear and wake up in Miami. If Tate Forcier ever starts for them, I will be even more impressed.
I still think that he would be better off at a smaller school, because he isn't going to the NFL anyway, and his true future is probably in the family QB school business. He might was well have fun and put up some stats to take "home" when he is finished.

This come from your vast knowledge of the inner workings of social dynamics in the Miami football program? By my count, 14 major contributors last season were from states not rhyming with Morida. The past is no different. Try telling Ed Reed, D.J. Williams, Calais Campbell, Jason Fox, Eric Winston, Bryant McKinnie, Reggie Wayne, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Greg Olsen and Clinton Portis that they were "outsiders" and see what kind of response you get. As far as non-starters, while completing my degree at Miami the last 4 years, I personally witnessed the close friendships of Miami guys with non-Miami guys.
I would genuinely love to hear where you're getting this information from.
If Tate doesn't play, it won't be because he's from California, it will be because he isn't the best QB for the system or because he decides to continue his habits of skipping class in favor of the devil's lettuce.
