TomVH: Potential New Visitor

Submitted by TomVH on
I just got off the phone with the head coach at Salesian High School, which is the home of 4 star SMU commit DE Devon Moreland (6'4", 230 lbs). TE Coach Ferrigno was out to see Devon recently, and offered the chance to visit this weekend. Devon's coach didn't know if they offered a scholarship, or if Devon will visit this weekend. They're calling me back in a few hours to talk to Devon to find out for sure. This would be a big deal if he visits. I'm on my phone because I'm having problems with the malware stuff. I'll update this as I find out more. I'll have updates on Twitter as usual.

Wow. Even if we go up to 22 in this class, it might still get very tight. Would love to get Moreland. Then again there's about 15 guys for 8 spots and they all are showing interest. Should be an exciting finish.

Perhaps it would be better for us to just post a link to the player's profile instead of just taking a screencap of the entire thing and placing it here.  I know some of us aren't fans of the pay sites, but the bottom line is that without them, a lot of us would be much more in the dark about recruiting.  Guys like TomVH can only do so much for free.  And it's free to view a player's profile, so I don't know why a screencap is necessary.

I don't think so, he just had a ton of offers from bigger programs. Here is a piece from "The Top 10 Most Surprising Commitments from 2010" on Rivals:

Committed to: SMU

Buzz: Moreland turned down offers from USC, UCLA, Texas A&M, Washington, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State and others when he committed to SMU this summer in one of the biggest head-scratching moves this recruiting cycle. One of Moreland's coaches said the four-star defensive end wanted to be a big fish in a small pond so SMU is a better fit than those Pac-10 teams.

Excellent. I am really stunned at how this recruiting has turned out. I was convinced we would have around 10-12 recruits this year. Wow. Just Wow.

Hoke has done so many things to make me jump on his bandwagon, I'm thoroughly impressed with the job he has done thus far.

I'm curious why this guy turned down some great Pac 10 schools for SMU. SMU is of course a good school, but the football program is only so so.
