So no shot at Christian Heyward?

Submitted by cypress on

I heard his name tossed around a while ago, and Rivals has him visiting SDSU on the 28th. I take it he wants to stay out west? I havent heard many DT possibilities and we desperately need one. Do we go into next year without taking one and try to take 2 next year? Seems like there are a lot of good ones in the region next year. O'Brien from Flint (is he a Michigan lean?)

Also, I heard that Washington may stay on defense. If he stays on D, and Campbell moves back, are we "ok" at DT or would it be wise for us to split them up, have one on offense and one on D?

Is a carriage return the same as a period these days?  While ambiguous due to your scarce punctuation, the most literal reading of what you've written here is that the girls in knoxville will be a ton better next year.

Tennessee led when RichRod was here. Since the coaching change, we are in a much better position. If Hoke has a decent year and makes a push, I expect him to be blue. The family is very much fans of the program. He's basically ours to lose at this point.

O'Brien was definitely a Tennessee lean while RR was here, Like chief said we are in much better position now and we have plenty to prove and time to do it to get  him more interested.

2012 DT/DE Matt Godin from Detroit Catholic Central would be very interested I believe if hes a UM offer. Family are big fans and he has three offers already. I am very excited to see how next years class turns out.

have a chance but i think it will be very slim because of how late in the season it is for him. if hoke sent fred jackson or greg mattison out though that could easily change his mind

I think it's more likely at this point that Rock ends up a DT, but if we don't get another DE in this class and Beyer gets slotted at LB, I bet they keep him at DE.  If we add a strongside DE in this class, Rock is a DT all the way.

Although I've heard a lot of Beyer to LB talk, I don't think that will stick.  First, because Beyer is 6'4" and will quickly fill out to a DE size.  Also, we are in on a lot of LBs in this class, and are high on solid OLBs in next year's class as well.  We won't need him at LB as badly as we'll need him at weakside DE.

Heyward wants to stay on the West Coast.

While we're talking about defensive tackles, Michigan will have a very good chance with Matthew Godin and Danny O'Brien. O'Brien is from Flint but may transfer to Detroit Catholic Central, where Godin plays. They would be a heck of a tandem together.

O'Brien's brother plays Bball at SVSU.  I don't think you want the kid driving back and forth to school every day and I don't see the family moving away from one son because of a football season.  Not to mention if O'Brien does choose Michigan the family would be centrally located in Flint to attend both boys sporting events.

Something in me tells me that Hoke/Mattison will pull at least one miracle in this recruiting class and I think it will be on the DL, given that both have DL coach backgrounds, as wella s being fantastic recruiters. I'm guessing we get someone like Heyward(was willing to go to freakin' SDSU to follow Hoke, I know he says he wants to stay on the WC, but you never know), Zettel,Cooper or even a Jernigan/Drew type. I know it's a pipedream, but I think these guys can make it happen
