Joe Boisture to transfer from MSU
Seems like he would fit nicely into the passing attack that Borges wants to implement
January 20th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
lol i remember people doggin msu for recruiting this kid cause of how bad he was. Even though his team in HS was crap, he still did poorly at a lot of camps, and now people are bringing up the fact that we should take a look at this kid? give me a break
January 20th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
I didn't really follow his recruitment last year so I was not aware that he was so overrated. Either way QB is not a must for the near future as we are pretty set with Denard and DG waiting in the wings
January 20th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
I wouldn't go that far. While Denard and DG are viable options for the next couple of years, with Tate leaving the program via Twitter, We need another QB on the roster now.Just not this kid!
January 20th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
This has nothing to do with the OP but I just got accepted into Michigan! If I wasn't posting from my itouch I would post many kitten pictures
January 20th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
And thank you for refraining from posting cat pictures.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
Well hell man (or gal), congrats! You will get an incredible education and have a great time for the next four years. Hopefully you also will witness four years of sports like I did (Sept '89 through May '93 - Bo, Elvis, Desmond, frozen fours and the Fab Five ain't too flipping bad.). I am jealous of all the great stuff you have to look forward to. Work hard, but enjoy it. It really does go by quickly. I know this sounds like old man advice, but it is true.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Boisture is not considering Michigan. He will either stay at State as a student or possibly Northern Illinois.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
but they were in the MAC title game, they're actually good*, you must be thinking of Eastern Michigan
*well, good for a MAC team anyway
January 20th, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
that points out we lost to Toledo not so long ago?
January 20th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
We didn't field a football team in 2008, silly.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
because I can say with confidence that Michigan was never considering Boisture.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
they have Andrew Maxwell, who is alot better then he is
January 20th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
I bet, he's going to CMU, to play for Enos and his MSU light playbook. Seems to fit the system
January 20th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
I believe that when he committed to MSU, he was regarded by the Valenti possee as the greatest QB in the history of the world.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
He was really the least exciting 4-star recruit of all time. Maxwell was just one year ahead of him and did really well at the Elite 11 camp. Joe went to the same camp the following year and didn't fare so well.
I do think it is too early to say "he sucks". I think he just saw writing on the wall:
2011: Cousins
2012-2013: Maxwell
That would leave him with one year as a starter assuming he held off younger guys.
I wish him the best. Kid was classy with the way he handled his exit....contrast that with Mr. Forcier (not flaming.....just pointing out my preference for maturity).
"It is in my best interest that I have decided to leave the Michigan State football program," Boisture said. "I love the university, my teammates, the medical staff and most of all Coach Dantonio. Coach D truly cares about me and all of his players off the field as well as on the field.
"I have the utmost respect for him as a coach and person and wish him and the Spartans nothing but success."
January 20th, 2011 at 7:13 PM ^
"It is in my best interest that I have decided to leave the Michigan State football program," Boisture said.
What he doesn't say is why it is in his best interest. Likely just the usual suspects: academics, social life, university community, dealing with "the meathead" etc.
Congratulations on coming to your senses Joe Boisture. Enjoy Grand Valley State or the MAC..
January 20th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
Probably a fair assessment... but I think MSU fans were a bit more giddy than you're describing. Back to back years of Maxwell and Boisture had a few of my MSU friends going nuts.
And let's be honest "didn't fare so well" is a very nice way of putting his Elite 11 performance.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
That is exactly what i was trying to do by using that choice of words. No reason to rip on the kid. We'll see what happens.
There is a small chance he gives up football. Notice he thanked the medical staff. He has been dealing with back problems.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
I always thought MSU was a bit of a weird choice for him anyways considering the depth chart. Didn't really know about the back issues, I suppose he could get a look from some MAC programs?
January 20th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
No rumblings on what the next step for joe is at this point.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
All you need to know is that he's out.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Sorry that some people are using this guy's bad news as an opportunity to rip on him.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:03 PM ^
Fair post...but don't kid yourself that Sparty wasn't super excited about him.
Here is the article when he committed to State. Notable quote:
Boisture is one of the top 100 prospects in the nation, according to rivals.com, and the No. 4 pro-style quarterback. He also had scholarships from UCLA, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh.
The #4 pro-style QB in the country? And he didn't get Sparty's panties moist?
Anyway, you're probably right that he's a classy guy. That might be why he left...hard to be classy when you're on a bus with a bunch of convicts.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
He also got benched during his senior season...
January 20th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
Yeah, really.
You totally ignored the content of the previous post, spare the words "Boisture" and the phrase "greatest in the history of the world" (which was obviously completely serious). Since you seem to be concerned with answering tangential implied questions that actually were never actually implied at all in the first place, I'll go ahead and fill in the blank here.
Yeah, Valenti was all about this guy. He stopped going on so much about him when he dropped out of the Rivals top 250 and finished last at the Elite 11. Regardless, he still makes it a point to say things like, "I'm not concerned with our QB situation -- we have three Elite 11 QBs on staff," despite that one of them is playing at wide receiver, another finished last at the Elite 11, and the third is a backup to a three-star recruit and has not seen significant playing time. At least now that Boisture will be gone, he can no longer make such a statement (as if it has any relevance, anyway).
January 20th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
Your point is well taken re: Nichol and Boisture.
However, bashing Maxwell because he hasn't overtaken Cousins is a stretch. Stars don't matter when you get to college and Cousins is an above average college QB. He will very likely be 1st or 2nd team All Big Ten next year.
Maxwell shined at Elite 11 and all reports are that he is on track to be the heir apparent.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
I'm not sure Cousins will be a 1st or 2nd team QB. Parva is back at NW, Pryor is back at OSU, Denard is still at UM, Taylor Martinez is still at Nebraska, Scheelhaase is up and coming and we'll see who takes over at Wisco and Iowa.
I'd bet a good chunk of change that at least two of those people are better than Cousins.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
"Stars don't matter when you get to college and Cousins is an above average college QB. He will very likely be 1st or 2nd team All Big Ten next year."
Your first point is correct -- hence the comparison. It's just as absurd for a prominent mouthpiece for the MSU program to repeatedly make a meaningless statement about having three Elite 11 quarterbacks on staff.
As far as Cousins being a shoe-in for 1st or 2nd team all Big Ten, I doubt it. Like WolvinLA said -- Scheelhaase et al are more likely candidates.
January 21st, 2011 at 12:57 AM ^
I don't think it's a stretch at all to consider Cousins for All Big 10, especially second team. It all depends on what kind of season MSU has. For a point of reference, here are the returning Big 10 QB's ranked by passer rating:
1. Persa
2. Pryor
3. Cousins
4. D Rob
5. Martinez (or as Dr. Lou would say "Martin-ehz"
6. Scheelhaase
7. McGloin
8. some Purdue guy
January 20th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
what you meant to say was DANTONIO'D
January 20th, 2011 at 6:35 PM ^
I think every position we have heard some recruiting news except QB. Anyone know anything regarding targetted QB's? While I think Denard and Devin are studs, it would be nice to have some depth.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
We offered a Boston College commit, and a Minnesota commit.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
As well as former Pitt commit Gary Nova and Clemson commit Cole Stoudt, although he's already enrolled, doh!
January 20th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
Boisture was benched by his high school team (Saline). No thanks
January 20th, 2011 at 7:10 PM ^
Probably not the first to mention this.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
I remember my State friend was so excited about this kid. And I remember making fun of him because he had like 4 touchdowns and 15ish? interceptions right before he was benched a few games into the year
January 20th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
He simply wasn't good. Beat out his senior year? Um, no.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
Not the clearest (I'm guessing you're referring to HS?)... but I agree, was never a big fan.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
I had to neg you, I'm sorry. For even considering we would want a State reject (no offense to him).
January 20th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
My wife slapped me just for reading this jibberish.
January 20th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
I'd hate to be you when a boob gif is posted!
January 20th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
hey guys come on, lets show some class... I mean he might not be the most talented qb, but it takes serious balls to transfer from sparty.
also, he wants to work hard and get into the system here, give it a try... he's a wolverine now so we as a fanbase are obligated to give him our full support.
never too late to go blue joe.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:21 PM ^
At what point did he become a wolverine? I think you should read the article.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
Ya it is too late to go blue. At least I hope so.
January 20th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
This is getting a little cliche, a la "I see what you did there."
January 20th, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
on leaving the green, but who the hell really cares.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
What's wrong with another qb. He could turn out to be a star, or he could be lousy. It couldn't hurt to have another guy around could it?
January 20th, 2011 at 8:21 PM ^
With the depth at QB right now, I bet Michigan takes just about anyone. They need a body.
