Chengelis Article with Mattison

Angelique Chengelis (DetNews) spoke with Mattison...here's a few interesting quotes

"The biggest reason is Brady," Mattison told The News on Tuesday night. "I know he's going to win. Michigan is a special place. The longer you're away from it, even when you're in the NFL, it's still Michigan. Every Saturday when we're in our rooms relaxing before the Sunday games, I always watched Michigan. That doesn't leave you."

But he said Baltimore coach John Harbaugh helped make it an easy decision.

"He has so much respect for Brady," Mattison said. "He came into my office and said, 'The job you've done here is unbelievable, but I would understand if you went to Michigan because it's Michigan. I would understand because it's Brady Hoke.'

"Don't worry about me recruiting," Mattison said with a laugh. "Recruiting is all about where you're at. If you really believe in the school you're at … it's easy to sell a place like Michigan."

"He's one of the best recruiters out there — he's a helluva recruiter," Irons said. "I'd put him in anybody's house and he'll sell them on Michigan and will be genuine about it."

like Hoke is the guy that all the mid-late 90's Michigan players & coaches watched grow up and thought they wouldn't mind working for him in 10 years or so after he just got a little experience... now if we manage to beat Ohio St next year...... wow. I may just pay Rick Derringer to re-record "Real American" to "I am a real Mich-i-gan Man"

"There's a certain amount of pride that goes with playing Michigan football. We will put a product on the field that is Michigan-type football. That's another reason I'm coming back — I know what I was taught by those Michigan coaches, and I want to put that back on the field."

I'm glad they got someone with a decent resume.  Seeing the numbers as they are, it looks as though I may have been a bit premature with my fears of Hoke "putting the band back together."  If I am seeing it correctly, only 3 out of nine, including Hoke, are from the IMCT.

If Hoke pulls this off in a best-case scenario, he may end up with a staff and philosophy that contains the best of what the Carr-tel has to offer while grafting a lot of new coaching DNA into the IMCT geneology, making it finally be the "No Longer Inbred Michigan Coaching Tree."

It would keep the old school fans happy, the media and ex-players would get their "Michigan Men" to fawn over, while actually giving Michigan a chance to be a team that isn't 20 years behind the coaching/learning curve anymore.

And if it doesn't happen, I guess I'll just have to stop believing in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

How can you NOT love this? The respect shown to Michigan, and the Harbaugh respect to our new coach?

<br>I think I need to sign off the board for the night...it can't get much better than this, and anything else will probably be a downer.
