Big Ten+ Recruiting Class Rankings | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Rank | School | # Commits | Rivals Avg | Scout Avg | ESPN Avg |
1 | Ohio State | 20 | 5.77 | 3.85 | 79.35 |
2 | Notre Dame | 22 | 5.70 | 3.59 | 78.91 |
3 | Nebraska | 16 | 5.71 | 3.44 | 78.53* |
4 | Michigan State | 17 | 5.63 | 3.24 | 76.71 |
5 | Wisconsin | 20 | 5.60 | 2.90 | 73.75 |
6 | Iowa | 20 | 5.62 | 2.90 | 75.16* |
7 | Illinois | 26 | 5.49 | 2.58 | 72.12 |
8 | Michigan | 11 | 5.65 | 3.45 | 78.36 |
9 | Penn State | 13 | 5.58 | 3.08 | 74.00 |

12 | Northwestern | 14 | 5.54 | 2.71 | 76.64 |
13 | Purdue | 13 | 5.48 | 2.31 | 73.00** |
Rivals rankings are on the "RR" scale, which is on a scale from about 5 to about 6.1. Unrated prospects are given a 5.1 rating, on par with the worst of any Big Ten commit last year. Scout is on the 5-star system (unranked players earn 1 star), and ESPN uses grades out of 100 (unranked is 40 or 45, except JuCo players, who aren't included in the average).
The rankings now have more emphasis on number of commits in the class, as Signing Day is approaching. This means the overall rankings can change quite a bit week-to-week.

just committed to OSU. 4 star lb from pennsylvania
January 17th, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
The sad thing is for all the crap people gave PSU for having , like, 4 recruits at the end of the season, they are basically neck-and-neck with UM's class. Ugh, I do hope that Hoke pulls in some kids in the next few weeks, or man will this be another depressing layer in the transition's mishaps.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
rivals's final rankings come out tomorrow and wednesday for anyone wondering
January 17th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
Irish, weren't irish fans afraid kelly wouldn't be able to recruit? Your class great! How did you get Ishaq out of New York. Hopefully Hoke will have a class like that next year!
January 17th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
Yeah that was the worry with kelly, he hadn't ever recruited nationally and thats what coaches have to do at ND so that was the big question that couldn't be answered till his first season. Haven't heard any complaints the past few months.
Ishaq is one of the best ND recruiting stories this year. It became pretty obvious he was going to announce for PSU at the army game based on the remarks he had made leading up to the game. He decided at the last minute to not announce at the game for a few reasons most of all because he wasn't 100% on his decision he said. (there was a PSU coach up for a job at another school at the time)
So a week goes by and its looking more and more like PSU, I had written him off as had any ND fan who follows recruiting. PSU insiders were expecting him to visit Saturday and as they described it; if he was comfortable and happy he wasn't going to be leaving campus to go back home with his dad (he's and EE). No shock to us really
Then about 45 mins later everyone reports he committed to ND. Before ishaq and his dad were to leave for PSU ND's DC Diaco stopped by for an in home visit at 4:30 in the morning. Not really sure how to describe Diaco but he always looks the same, shoes shined, probably a plaid jacket on and his hair perfectly placed, think otter from animal house. Showing up at 4:30 in the morning right after the dead period ended left a big impression on them. After Diaco left, ishaq asked his dad what he was going to say to PSU because he didn't know how to tell them he wasn't visiting anymore. Just an epic pull, just amazing they were able to flip him so late in the game
January 18th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
We can haz Diaco?
January 18th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
you can haz no diaco and you will like it

January 17th, 2011 at 8:42 PM ^
wait till tomorrow when the new 5 stars come out
January 17th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
i hate the Irish. 4 DE's. What the heck is going on? Who is their d-line coach?
January 17th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
None other than former Wolverine Mike Elston. Kelly is putting together one heck of a class this year. Only thing really missing right now is a big-time RB (maybe Savon Huggins but he's probably going to Rutgers), although Cam McDaniel is a nice prospect.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
Thanks. 4 highly ranked DE's. incredible. Wish we could a couple. What is up with either ex-Wolverine coaches or players going to ND. I don't see it reciprocated.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
don't get your hopes up for huggins, it doesn't look good right now. Not sure he will have a spot to commit to on NSD either
January 18th, 2011 at 12:08 AM ^
January 17th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
No doubt this recruiting class is looking like a train wreck but i cant blame Hoke for this hes only been there a week. He still has time and hes passed my first test with flying colors by retaining the current players(denard!!). I think we'll be ok if we get a good kicker and a good DC, theres a lot of young guys on the team but next year is do or die!
January 18th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
So then you agree we can fire this guy if he sucks next year?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
But we certainly can blame Brandon.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
Add Chase Hounshell to NDs class. 3* guy yoinked from the Gators just minutes ago!
January 17th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
another DE too
January 17th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
We are not looking good at this time...Woooooo....... Stilll I am all in for Mr. Hoke...!
January 17th, 2011 at 10:15 PM ^
time to kick it into gear - it is a sprint to the finish line and we are still looking for our shoes.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:47 AM ^
Hoke needs to get things moving immediately.
Next weekend is when we'll probably see the commitment numbers move in the other direction.
And good God, I hope Tim is right about this.

Kick it into gear? All he's done so far is make things worse...i.e. torpedo Lucien. Maybe we don't want him out there. Q: How can he want Lucien for defense if he has no DC?

Rubs eyes... "Did I miss something? The Irish joined the Big 10?"

For the bazillionth time, we play ND more often than some of the teams in the Big Ten and we recruit against them, it makes perfect sense to include them.
Here's Tim's quote on the issue:
Yes, I'm well aware that Notre Dame isn't in the Big Ten, but there's enough interest in them as a regional rival that Michigan pays every year, that it's worthwhile to include them.

I'm pretty sure there was a nicer way to relay that information.

I wasn't aware that Michigan payed Notre Dame every year. I thought we just played them every year. Then again, maybe we should pay them since they are usually (always) overhyped and good for a W.

This makes me sad. This class could hurt big time in a few years.

I cringed when I finally built up the courage to click on this link

We can't judge Hoke's recruiting ability on this class. Not at all. Even if he pulls off 17-18 commits, his 2012 class will be much more telling based on quantity/quality.

That's mostly true, but I think we should judge his 2012 class by their performance as freshman.

Where are youuuuu?

Kayak & Tuitt up to 5 stars, G. Atkinson and Hanratty down to 3. That's a net neutral on the average Scout ranking.

4* MLB out of Pittsburgh (scout), 3* rivals.

Doran Grant dropped to a 4* (from a 5*) in the Scout re-rankings.

Ah the "process" that DB used in this whole cluster is really paying off in recruiting. God it's sad to see only 10 commitments. I do have faith that Hoke will pull in a few more quality players. We'll take whatever bodies we can get this year and hope for the best next year I suppose.
