No DC Hire Yet: Big Name Coming?
While the OC position has been known since coach Hoke was fired, the DC position remains unfilled. If were getting a member of the Michigan Mafia such as Austin, Heater or Bedford, one would guess that we could have gotten them relatively quickly (especially given the fact that Austin is currently unemployed and Heater was before going to Temple).
Could the lack of a hire mean that we're going after a big name like Randy Shannon? Or does DB feel that he needs to go through a six-day chasing period even though he knows who is going to get hired?

Maybe we could just not have a DC
January 15th, 2011 at 10:34 PM ^
We tried that these past two years.

are there any real rumblings about shannon or is that all just wishful thinking? and what about Trgovic?

Jim Morrison is coming as the DC. Ray will be the secondaries coach, and John and Robby will split special teams
January 15th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
Whiskey, Mystics and Michigan Men.

C'mon, everybody knows that Morrison's record as DC sucked out in LA, and Manzarek's tenure as DBs coach was awful. Densmore might be a decent recruiter, but Krieger's just a crony and adds nothing.

...of this dumbass thought...the end...I'll never post about JM being a DC....again.

Lloyd Brady is very interested and would accept the job if offered.

Don't make me associate that face with those words.

Even though it's still pretty fresh, I'm glad I can laugh about this now. I've never really been that big of an NFL watcher, but after spending most all my Saturday watching Michigan it has been nice to tune in to see some defenses actually work. I might be scarred for life from these past couple seasons.

Is Vance Bedford. I'd love to see Randy Shannon come but I just don't see it
January 15th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
Yea I agree. Also, I don't know why the OP said "If were getting a member of the Michigan Mafia such as Austin, Heater or Bedford, one would guess that we could have gotten them relatively quickly" ---wasn't that the reason we weren't getting Hoke as the coaching search stretched on and on?
January 16th, 2011 at 8:19 AM ^
because DB didn't want it to appear that Hoke was choice #1 after his big talk about forking out $$$ for coaches. If you only offer the job to one person he is your top choice.

randy shannon would be a rock star hire imo. It will open up that pipline to florida never seen before. I like it. I would pay Shannon a million dollars a year to be the d coordinator. He would definitely be worth it.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:13 AM ^
That we can't hire rock stars, or rather Dave Brandon won't, because rock stars are too self centered.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:50 AM ^
year then bolts for a head coaching gig? Another year, another system?
Other than that, there would be some good positives.
For Austin, the thing I like the most is the thought of good western p.a. recruiting again, I believe he was primary recruiter for Marlin J. and Stevie B...

The Michigan Man wins every time. I think Randy Shannon is a great hire, but after hearing about Michigan Men and how every staff member will have a fanatical love for our great University, I think a former staffer or player will be the likely choice. Hello Vance Bedford.

How long did it take RichRod?
Also, my vote would be Randy Shannon or Scott Shafer.

Clearly not long enough...

Maybe when the ball boy is defensive minded a DC is kind of redundant

I guess hiring an old XFL RB as DC would be a step up from Gerg.

January 15th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
all part of DB's process...respect the process!!!
January 15th, 2011 at 10:39 PM ^
The process:
1. Open up the pocketbook
2. Have a coach in mind
3. Interview a bunch of other coaches, but make sure to take your time on this time sensitive matter
4. Compile all information
5. Choose the original coach you had in mind
6. Rethink opening up the pocketbook
7. Close pocketbook
/s I seriously hope we get someone good.
January 15th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
I remember when people were saying that Hoke wasn't going to be the coach because that would've been done quickly. So, we must've been waiting around for a big name.
I don't think you can rule out the "Michigan Mafia" guys based on the evidence we have.
January 15th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
I read somewhere that the plan was to have the staff complete today..
January 15th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
Most likely it's Bedford. I doubt it would be someone outside of the Michigan or hoke tree
January 15th, 2011 at 10:26 PM ^
How big is the Hoke tree? 2" tall?

Big name and splashy seem to the antithesis of the current regime. I'm guessing the initial response will be "who?"
