Al Borges: Will Adapt Offense to Denard

Submitted by mgoblue52 on

Borges runs a pro-style offense, but he said it has gone through much tweaking over the years, and describes his philosophy as more of a hybrid pro-style.

He has run some aspects of the spread offense.

"To say we're a spread team, we're not that," Borges said. "But you can't say, we're going to blow up and start all over again, not when you have a talent like (Robinson).

This sounds promising at least...

I was very encouraged by this interview.  I don't think we would be squandering our talent if we tried to emulate the Eagles 2010 offense.  I like the way he's approaching this.

Given the huge leap he made from 2009 to 2010, I'm expecting great things in 2011 and 2012. I think the key thing to develop is the run/pass threat. We know Denard can run; we know he can pass. What he hasn't done well (at least not yet) is threaten both options on the same play, a la Vick. Developing that ability will make him lethal.

imagine that play-action will be a large part of the offense.  If that's true, Denard will need to gain the ability to get his head around and  pick up reads after turning his back to the defense.  I know that is one of the concerns for NFL scouts when grading QBs that operated primarily out of the shotgun in college, and thus had their eyes on the defense throughout every play.
