but if Miles truly had no interest in the job wouldn't that be conveyed through agents/etc. without Miles having to meet Brandon and express that he isn't interested.

You're right though - until now this whole coaching search has been done almost under the radar and then BAM - it comes out that Brandon and Miles are having a meeting.  I don't necessarily think it means Miles will be our next coach but I think Les is interested to hear what Brandon has to say.

If he truly wants to "accommodate his alma mater," he'll take the job.  Otherwise both parties will be wasting their time.

I think the most straightforward explanation is that there is mutual interest here, but that it isn't set in stone.  Miles needs to receive our offer and we may need to hear some things from him first.  But if we are indeed meeting with him, I'd say the odds are pretty solid he'll be our next coach.

i just listened to the head guy at tigerbait.com on the huge radio show and he said that les has told ppl that he's only meeting with michigan so that he doesn't embarrass Michigan. he also said that they are working on les's contract and it could be finalized tomorrow, possibly even tonight and then he may not even meet with michigan. in my OPINION maybe les has informed his players and his a.d. that he is interviewing with michigan but that he's not going anywhere. Maybe Michigan knows Miles isn't an option but they are interviewing him anyway to satisfy the fans who would completely freak out if they didnt at least interview him. who knows what goes on during coaching searches. but i'm not feeling too good about les coming to michigan

......hopefully before Wednesday, which would be the one week mark.

I have to believe that Les is at least willing to listen, because it would be pretty dumb of both Brandon and Miles to waste time and energy on an elaborate, weekend-long gesture above the skies of Texas and Louisiana. I mean, come on, Dave, you have people waiting to hear "Habemus Coach".

Les wouldn't do this publicly if he's not interested but is just being polite. That makes no sense. He could have made the whole M thing a non-issue from the beginning - by simply letting it be known that he's fully committed to LSU. Who would have minded? This would have saved everyone time and avoided any awkwardness. To say you're taking a meeting is to turn on the spotlight.

My vaugly formed opinion of LSU fans have completely changed after stalking their message boards.  I'm sorry if we end up stealing your coach, but you sound like people I'd love to have a beer or three with.

Is Miles a "home-run hire"?

I don't know.

He wins games, I suppose.  I hope he can elevate our status.  Michigan has pretty much been a regional program as of late -- yes, we put up 9 or 10 wins, often competing for a B10 championship, but nothing beyond that.

I think DB already knows who he wants to hire and he is either talking to Miles about the person he wants to hire or is interviewing him for the heck of it. Technically we can't hire anyone until Wednesday, so it's possible he's just covering all of his bases.

If Bill Martin had just gone with his gut for his last hire instead of taking advise from some disgruntled alums/trustees we could have avoided this whole predicament. Less would have been three years younger eliminating the age debate, RR would have likely had more success and less stress taking another offer and everyone would have been fine and dandy

been checking out alot of tweets and stuff

this one looks promising

Something happened with the les miles deal as the Husker G.A.s were called back to lincoln a day early from a.f.c.a. conv. Pelini to L.S.U.?

I believe Les Miles is scheduled to speak at the A.F.C.A. convention on tuesday so he stayed.

guess we will see if its true, But this is interesting if it is, especially since Pelini has such a strong connection to LSU.

Also I read somewhere that if Hoke is Michigan's guy,. that Herm Edwards could be their new head coach, Ben Maller said that i think, Edwards played his college ball at SDSU
