You’re the AD: What Interview ?’s Do You Ask?

Submitted by NoVaWolverine on

Amidst all the speculation about WHO Dave Brandon might or might not be interviewing soon, I’d like to focus on this: If you’re Brandon, *what* questions would you ask potential HC candidates in a sit-down interview?

Here’s a few I’ve come up with – what would you add?

1) Let’s say I offer you the job. You now have XX days to complete the 2011 recruiting class. How do you plan on retaining current commits and convincing other potential recruits to commit to Michigan in such a short time frame? What’s your “pitch” to them about your plans for the future of the program, and why they should come to Michigan during this transition to a new coach?

2) What will you say to the current players in your first meeting with the team? How will you convince those who might be unsure about staying at Michigan that they should remain Wolverines?

3) How quickly can you put together a coaching staff? Which members of your current staff would you ask to come to Ann Arbor, and how likely are they to accept?

4) What’s the one (or two or three) thing(s) you would do immediately to bring about substantial improvement in our on-field performance, particularly against our “benchmark” peers? (i.e., ND, msu, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn St., Ohio St.)

5) How would you adjust your overall approach to take advantage of the specific players/talent currently on the team?

6) How do you plan on uniting a divided fan base? What’s the first thing you’ll say to them if you’re introduced as the new coach?

1.How quickly can you steal TCU's defensive coordinators?

2. How do you plan to deploy Denard

3.Have you ever, or do you ever plan on wearing a sweater vest?

4. Do you know where hell is?

5.Follow up from question4, if you don't think it's Columbus Ohio give 5 reasons why?

Show him 3 minutes of defensive film.

Ask: What position does Craig Roh play?

Wrong answer: LB. End of interview.

Right answer: D-line. Alright, let's start writing your speech to Denard about why he should stay.

and how would this affect your playcalling on third down?

This drove me crazy about RR and McGee.  We'd have a third and ten, not in range of of our kickers (ie. not inside the ten), we know we're going to go for it on fourth down, and they call long pass play.  Incomplete pass, now we have a 4th and 10.

If you know you're going to go for it on fourth down, then you don't have to try to get all of it on third down.

But I was lead to believe that the man was an offensive "genius" and certianly a title like "genius" cannot be thrown around hap hazardly. You must have been having a hallucination or something.

Even more relevent is why the hell was it 3rd and 10 to begin with?? Short of a penalty, which is still no excuse. A football team should virtually NEVER be in a 3rd and 10, or 9 or even 8. Unless of course your offensive philosophy is to just go for the endzone on every play, which would make you of the same mindset as my 6yr old son.

How much money will it cost for you to be our coach, starting today.

What fraction of Terrell Pryor's salary do you need for your assistants?

7. What are your Michigan Man credentials?  Oh, you're not sure what that means?  Neither am I, but that's not my problem.

8. Do you understand Midwestern football?  You need a definition for that, too?  Sorry -- as far as I can see it just means getting your a$$ kicked in bowl games more often than not.

9. Do you favor SMASHMOUTH football over other styles, like that bull$hit offense Oregon runs?  What a bunch of effete pu$$ies they are!

10. Do you like cheese fries?  Have you ever been to Fraser's Pub?

11. Have innumerable MGoBlog posters, many with fewer than 100 points, come out of the woodwork in support of your candidacy?  (Editor's note: This is a truly stunning, perhaps diary-worthy development IMO.)

12. Do you think that one good season in six is tantamount to "turning around a program?"

13. Our football team needs to be tougher, especially Mike Martin and David Molk.  Can you help with that?

14. Michigan has lots of tradition.  No, I couldn't tell you exactly WTF that means, either, but I still have to ask whether you understand it.

15. Do you understand the OSU rivalry?  Good -- that means you'll beat them next year.

16. Do you intend to recruit midgets at every position?  No?  Thank goodness!  That clown we just fired gave a full scholarship to a 5'7" defensive tackle.  (Editor's note: Dominique Ware, who is a walk-on AFAIK, has been cited by enemies of Rodriguez as a good example of his recruiting.)

since Ware walked on senior day meaning he's been here longer than RR.

My question:

You understand this is a dictatorship and I'm the head dick so you won't be offended if I watch game film with you and your staff on Sundays even though I've never been a coach will you?

Do you think stuffed animals add to or detract from defensive performance?
