Why wont "Michigan Men" say they are from Michigan?
I have seen a number of recent Michigan football players on TV today, introducing themselves and announcing their school as part of NBC lineup reviews.
While former Buckeyes proudly say they are from "THE Ohio State University", today we had Jonathan Goodwin and David Harris recite the names of their high schools, not U of M. Even Braylon called it "(unintelligble)'s University of Michigan.
what is going on? Are we really seeing Michigan Men acting like dipshits?

I went to James J. Duderstadt's University of Michigan.
I don't like Braylon saying that because it is divisive. Whatever happened to, "THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM!" Not Lloyd's team, Bo's team, etc.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but if a 5-star stud OMG Shirtless DB wants to come to UofM and wants the #1 jersey, give it to him. Also give it to the 5-star stud WR. I noticed osu had two number 1s on their roster, and they seem to do just fine. Heck, I'd give another #1 jersey to a special teams stud, and 3 more redshirt frosh. Whatever it takes to get some more talent on the roster. And if that detracts from Braylon's legacy, I don't give a crap. Because I'm all in for THE TEAM. {end of mini-rant.}

but it would be refreshing to hear an unambigous declaration of support for the University of Michigan football program—whatever its struggles—from alumni players in the NFL once in a while.
Highly talented professional athletes are normal human beings in many ways, and that means that some percentage of them are front-runners who disappear when the going gets rough. It's just par for the course for people in all walks of life.

Because we're not some insecure little two bit institution that needs to constantly be yelling our name at NFL sporting events. Largest alumni base, SPACE BITCHES, etc, etc. We don't need to constantly be talking ourselves up for people to know we're the best.

It's a disgrace that these guys say their high schools. Why not middle schools? hometowns? streets? The whole point of the introduction is name/college. Not name/HS, name/street, or any other stupid microcosim these guys want to shout out. Our program is in straight up disaray and it doesn't help one bit when our NFL guys won't even acknowledge us. Most if not all recruits want to be in the NFL one day, what do you think they think when they see these displays of disloyalty?

Name me more than five schools in the country that would be playing on January 1st with a record of 7-5, and a crappy 7-5 at that. The reason we were there....because we are MICHIGAN. We have a right to an elitist attitude. We seemed to forget that when we went fad chasing a few years ago, but we ARE better than all but a handfull of programs out there. We are a better institution, a better team and better men. We have to return to that attitude or we can become just another program.
So some of our players think outside the box and take liberty with their introductions on football broadcasts. That is nothing more than a representation of the independence and creativity that is nurtured in Ann Arbor.
There is a reason football fields run North to South. His name is Yost. Accuse me as you will of being a blue hair (which I am not by age) and clinging to the past. I will take that insult every day if I don't have to watch my program get embarrased in front of a national audience like we did on New Year's Day.
We are MICHIGAN. We are elite. We forgot that for a moment, but the right person can bring us back there and I hope Brandon finds that individual. Take your shots at Hoke as Brian has instructed you to do, but he has not forgotten that we earned an elitist attitude through the work and dedication of some great men.

You realize there were 4 other teams with 7-5 records playing on January 1st right? Two of those are powerhouses Northwestern and Texas Tech. Your point is horrible.

The ones who think nothing of an ego maniac, bent on continueing & promoting his invention(go ahead, wiki the read option, Richy boy does get credited as the inventor) at the expense of our football team, our fanbase & a nice chunk of our reputation. The OP called it chasing a fad, and thats exactly what the last 3yrs has been.
There are some football facts that are indisputable to anyone who's watched or played the game. Things like oh say, 1st downs are the lifeblood of an offense. You need to achieve 1st downs like a human needs to eat. Sending your team out on the field again and again to be forced into 3rd and 9 is just plain insanity(you know, the old repeating expecting different results).
Watching a man flat REFUSE to drop into a power formation and at least TRY and see if you can get a 2nd and 6 for the love of GOD. If it also fails, fine. Then go on to the next page. He stands at a podium complaining over and over, like a broken record about how "our offense just couldn't get into rhythm today.
A "michigan man" is about doing things the right way. Flipping the bird to your own teams fanbase while beating the same dead horse into 3rd and 9 waiting for your system to "bust a big one" doesnt seem right to alot of people. Just because you found some masochistic enjoyment in it doesnt make you right or better than the hundreds of thousands of fans, former players, allumni and others who just want to see things done right. And that doesnt mean any particular methodology. Just whatever it takes to get the best results possible.

I don't know about you, but I would love to "chase the fad" that both teams playing in the national championship run.
It's late and I don't want to reply to all of your bullshit, so I will just respond to a couple things. Our offense ran plenty of power formations. I can think of 4 straight times in the Illinois game last year we ran POWER football and it didn't quite help us out. I guess having one of the best offenses in the nation isn't good enough. I guess it is all RichRod's fault that he was brought in to change the style of football here and then we pulled the plug before his players got to be Juniors. What an asshole that he did what he was brought in to do. I hate him.
You know what else he did at the podium...take plenty of blame. But I guess you just caught the highlights, right? You just listened to what you wanted to. Because I heard him say numerous times that the team wasn't prepared and that is on the coaches. Go ahead, keep telling me what you heard on freep and mlive boards about him blaming the players.
You also realize that both Bo and Yost weren't Michigan men but Moeller and Les Miles are, right? Apparently Michigan man means getting DUI's and lying to players and parents and the media. RichRod was more of a Michigan Man than you'd like to give him credit for. Also, judging by your last sentence, you would love Miles. He definitely does whatever it takes to get the best results. Fuck you freshmen who is already living in the dorms, you are the lowest rated of our recruits so you get to pay for college this year or transfer. I guess that is acceptable for a "Michigan Man" though.

Those are kids they develop for three and four years before they get out there. We have a major lack of depth on defense. There's probably not a coach in the country that could have worked with the defense we had this year. We just have to find a coach who will recruit to avoid problems like this.
