I want Gruden.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
Gruden would be awesome too but of Gruden, Harbaugh, and Miles I've preferred Miles. I hope we dont have to wait until Wednesday at the UM-osu game for them to announce the new head coach.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
What's you're reasoning there man?
January 8th, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
NCAA championship hardware.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:35 PM ^
Super Bowl win > backing into NC game with two losses and beating a team QB'd by Todd Boeckman
Let's not underestimate how fortunate Miles is to have that hardware.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:55 PM ^
Let's see....4 out 6 seasons at LSU Miles has 11+ wins. I think he'll do.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
As long as he stops all the shady business that he partaked in down in the SEC and LSU. I'll be fine with him. That's the only way, I'd let him come here, with a reassurance that he'll abide by Michigan standards, not the lowly, shady, SEC standards.
Also, only if, the Gruden rumors (which I believe are false) are false and doesn't want to come here. If Gruden expresses interest in Michigan, I say snatch him up immediately.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
I think we can reasonably assume that Coleman and Brandon will vet his candidacy and make sure he is on the same page with regard to ethical issues. With the football program on probation, I can't imagine they wouldn't. If they feel comfortable that he can do his job here and steer clear of any NCAA issues, why shouldn't we?
January 8th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
I'm fairly confident that no one cares whether you'd "let him come here"
January 9th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
I don't see you saying this to anyone else posts on their opinion whether or not they think Les Miles should come. Why is that?
January 9th, 2011 at 4:29 PM ^
You are the first one i've seen that has insinuated that you have the power "to let" or "not let" anyone come here. All along I thought this was Dave Brandon/MSC's decision, not Waffles.
January 8th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
Partook
January 8th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
I wouldnt mind Gruden but I'd prefer Miles over Gruden. As for your logic a lot of TB fans say Gruden had an already stacked team when they won the SB and ran them to the ground.
Either way I'll take what Miles has done in the SEC and hoping he becomes Michigans coach and does the same.
January 9th, 2011 at 12:38 AM ^
Won 11+ games in a a 13 or 14 game season a whopping 4 times in 6 years as HC of a top-tier BCS team. In that 6 year period he's won 5 bowl games.
Gruden has done what? Won 11+ games in the NFL's 16 game season exactly twice, had no meaningful college coaching experience and hasn't coached anything for several years.
YES, hiring Pete Carroll seemed to work out well for USC, but then again, it actually didn't work out as well as we all thought at the time. What other NFL castaways have provided lasting success to the colleges they moved to?
Dave Wannstadt?
Bill Callahan?
Charlie Weis?
Hiring a washed out NFL coach is even riskier than an NFL team hiring a successful college coach.
And that's not even taking into account that his offensive system would almost certainly drive away the most talented player on our team.
Terrible, terrible idea.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
Wow, you're waaay in the minority there
If I had to guess, he is part of the vast majority.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
True dat, I don't understand the love affair with Gruden. When was the last time he coached in college or had an in-home visit with a recruit? There's more to coaching college football than X's and O's.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
Over Harbaugh? No, he is not in the majority.
January 8th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
But Harbaugh is not an option anymore. :(
January 8th, 2011 at 9:29 PM ^
He is definatly the most proven. Brian not wanting Miles here is not enough reason for me to not want him. That said, most people preferred Harabugh
January 8th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
Although it is probably almost impossible that he is even an option. He has no ties to assistants therefore there is a lot of possibilities that could come from that (assuming we throw the money around). As I said in another post, he would be great for recruiting and would be even better to sell the "brand" that is Michigan football. The coordinators/assistants that he would bring in would make all the difference (good or bad).

The elusive triple post!
January 8th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
Was getting bad gateway errors but I said Let 'er rip! and hit save like 10 times. This rumor is now available in story form at the worldwide leader: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6003504
January 8th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
Same thing happened to me, only I double posted on another thread...further investigation makes me ask whether you got a little point crazy and pos'd yourself all three times as well? Hmmmmmm?
January 8th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
Up to +6 on a triple post. Maybe I'm just more popular than you? Hmmmmmm?
January 8th, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
There there. I'm sure you too will someday have >1000 points.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
haha, nah, that was me. I posted the URL but Mr. Pahokee was kind enough to embed the video.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
You've gone where many are afraid to go.
January 8th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
Triple posts of a double shot of Miles video.... hmmm thats bad omen right?
January 8th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
Lame clapping but awesome triple post!
January 8th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
of that list would have read 1. Harbaugh 2. Gruden 3. anyone but Miles. So if those options, I guess that leaves me with Gruden. I can live with that (if only)
January 8th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
amen
you gotta believe

January 8th, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
what you, or any of us, want. LM is in because DB says so.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
I want Gruden.
And if Gruden doesn't want Michigan...?
January 8th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
Than I don't want Gruden. Remember, these things are "fluid".
January 8th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Although, unlike this Coaching Search, urine is sterile.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
Then I cry bitter, maize and blue colored tears (at least until DB can wrap up Miles)
January 8th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
but if not 61 and 17 in the sec is way good for me.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:48 PM ^
just saying.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
Dungy, Gruden, Miles, we have to be able to bag one of these guys.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
I'm in no way sold on this whole Gruden thing. For one, he has trouble sustaining success, and I'm very wary of NFL coaches coming down to the college game, i.e. Wannstedt. Saban, Spurrier, et al. don't count because they were natural college coaches who failed at moving up. Hiring Gruden would seem similar to the Saints hiring Ditka, in my opinion. The guy's biggest success is pretty far behind him, and he's too much of an NFL guy, IMO.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
Agreed for the most part, but I could imagine his super bowl ring being a very effective recruiting device and if he could assemble a dream team staff around him then I would be placated.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
We need to go after both of them and the first one that wants it gets it. We put all our eggs in one bag with JH and almost got totaly screwed.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
would certainly bring that "flash-bang" that would energize the fans and recruits as well. As long as we sign him to a long term contract with a high buy out on his part, then I am okay with it.
