Jimbo Fisher New Contract = Good News??

Submitted by Talcelm on

For those of you looking for a glimmer of hope that the HC issue is close to being complete take this for what it is worth. Rumors abounded that if LM came to AA Jimbo Fisher would be a lock to come to LSU since he was Sabans OC during that tenure. Well Miami Canes site reports that FSU gave Fisher a new contract 5 yrs $2.75 mil a year trying to head off Fisher bolting. Granted with FSU having a resurgence it seemed unlikely but hey in this screwed up season i believe anything can happen. Lets just hope this "search" is alomst over.

DB, in his infinite widom, is not providing us with any. I would at least like to hear some noise out of the AD office, such as we are currently conducting interviews/evaluations with a number of candidates. Anything. Until then all we have are misleading and ill-informed tweets...

Are you for real? They said they were conducting a search, what else do you expect them to say (and quite frankly, the fact that we don't have a coach makes a job search pretty obvious). Like any job search, the quieter they are, the more it puts them in a position of strength.

What, do you want Brandon to tweet: Just met with Stoops, probably not coming. Oh well, on to next guy #screwed

They don't need to update the fanbase with every move

If you read all of the comments about people who know Brandon well, a lot of them say something to the effect of "sticks to his plan like no one I've ever seen".

I think that makes all of these conspiracy theories and rumors about what actually happened just that - conspiracy theories and rumors.

I think what some people fail to realize is that more than anything else, a head coach is a leadership position (that's why I find the calls for Gus Malzahn as head coach based on his offensive proficiency so bizarre). Brandon knows more about leadership than most of us, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and that includes waiting to see how any hire works out (aside from Miles, who I actually think is not nearly as bad as most people do, but think he's a bad hire based on age).

I would actually be more impressed if he hired someone we know little about because he thought they would make a good head coach at Michigan, than if he hired retreads like Miles, and to some extent Hoke.

I may not agree with his timeline, and the shortened schedule probably makes it really hard to dig deep on more out-of-mainstream candidates, but he's sticking to his plan and we should probably just trust him for now.

Talk about missing the point dude. I dont have any under the radar coaches to recommend, I'm not an AD, I only watch football (like 99% of the fanbase).

It's his job to find the best candidate, whether that's under the radar, or high profile. And I'd rather he find someone who may not be so prominent but has the right stuff to be a head coach than settle for someone who may not be the right fit but has a decent record.

A I've said in this board before, if he can get an A lister, great, but that rarely happens.

Let him do his thing without constantly updating people scouring message boards.

If my boss assigns me a task of minimal to medium importance, he seldom checks on my progress except in the case of maybe a few weeks have passed, then he might ask "how is situation X coming along?". If I am working on something of immense importance, I am asked for daily progress reports, and my progress is judged accordingly. I understand that the db DB needs some level of discretion in order to accomplish his tasks in an effective manner, however his total bunker mentality (one official release in the week since the bowl game) is a little bit of overkill. There are a lot of people out here who take Michigan football pretty seriously, and we would like to know at least that he is taking reasonable steps to remedy this situation that he, and only he, has created. And, allow me to take this further. In the next election cycle, if an individual (or individuals) were to run for the UM Board of Regents on a platform that consisted of forcing the exit of DB, I would vote for them regardless of party affiliation. That is how much I despise this trenchcoat wearing corporate mentality practicing dickhead.

Yes, but we aren't exactly his boss, either - MSC and the Regents are. We're more the clientele. He has to ultimately deliver a good product to us, but we don't hire/fire him.

I do agree that it's frustrating as a fan to not know what's going on, but that may be necessary for the time being - we don't know. Let's just hope it ends well.

And the rumors are much more based on Bo P. than on Jimbo, so this has no indication for what's happening with Michigan's coaching situation.

Besides, everyone knows Lloyd Carr is coming back, because, like, he had so much fun doing it the first time around. /s

Does any of this really matter? The coach who was in the process of turning things around is fired. Our great white hope has signed with the 49ers. The two most plausible options left are a former player/asst. coach who's shady at best and another former asst. who's as unproven as they come. Seriously, let's get someone in place and soon. Hire coach Klein from The Waterboy movie and then shell out some meaningful dollas for assistants who actually know what they are doing. How do we know who they are? If your DC candidate wants to show his appreciation by rubbing a stuffed animal on a players chin, he's out of the running.

Bo came from Miami (Ohio) and became a Michigan Man. Let's hire someone and let them do the same. Michigan Men aren't hired, they're shaped in their time at the school. Whatever happens, let's do it soon. The longer this search goes, the worse things will get.

So Jimbo Fisher waits three years for the HC job at FSU to open up, gets the job via an acrimonious force out of the legendary Bobby Bowden, and then leaves after one year? No.
