How should we go about introducing our coach??

Submitted by rb4kb8 on

I was thinking it would be cool to be able to keep everyone in limbo until the UOS basketball game next week.. and then trot out the coach before the game and get the crowd all pumped up...tell them how he'll destroy UOS.

But that would only work with Harbaugh.. wouldn't it?.. would there be enough people who obsess over this enough to actually know who the next guy is and be able to pull that off?... I mean I guess OSU did it with SweaterVest.

Any other cool ways to do it other than the traditional press conference?

I was thinking a campus wide scavenger hunt with puzzle pieces at all nooks and corners of campus.  FInally, with about 15,000 puzzle pieces, students are called forth to assemble it and by March, the puzzle will form a picture of a face.  The face being...JIM HARBAUGH.  Of course it will be one of those double sided puzzles and on the back of it will be Brady Hoke.  Whichever side the students figure out first gets the job.

How about:  (Name here), Michigan's new head football coach, destined to be fired mid-contract after three years or less if he doesn't exceed everyone's expectations.

Honesty is the best policy...

Don't get me wrong, the last 3 years, and most of the last decade, have been painful, but I feel if you only want to give someone a three year run, sign them to a three year contract.

One makes a contract based on what you expect the outcome to be. Coach contracts are tuypically long term to give coaches and recruits a sense of stability.  One inserts buy out clauses/liquiodated damages clauses to protect one or both sides should the situation turn out different than expected at the begnning.  Life happens.  This is not dishonest. Rich wasn't screwed - I gan give you 2.5 million examples why he got an honest resolution of a contract issue.

Expecting your AD to see into the future in order to arrange an appropriate contract term to satisfy rhe internet ain't gonna happen.  Let it go.

There was shit left in the cupboard.  All you have to do is look at our recent draft picks or all the quality RS seniors, seniors, and RS juniors that were starting from the previous staff.  Even Bo himself said three years isn't enough to judge a coach when Moeller got fired by Illinois.

Pending possible transfers/early entrants, the next coach has lost one starter on D (trading TWoolf for Rogers a major upgrade) and two on O.

Expect the outcome to be?  Interesting choice of words when you consider the program was embarking on a total 180 after our upperclass talent laden preseason #5 ranked team lost at home to an FCS school.  How can you expect anything when you are heading into the unknown with very little talent?

MIGHT have been enough, had they decided to go with a coach that continued the same system Carr was running...or something similar.  Instead, they chose to go a different route...to go to the spread and send Mallett out the door.  Does anyone think that if we had brought in a pro-style coach, which would have kept Mallett around and also kept the recruiting steady, that we wouldn't have been winning 8/9c (or more) games a year over the last three years?  The Athletic Department CHOSE to go the RR route, knowing that it would be a long project...and dumped him before he even got one of his players to be a junior.  I will continue to support the team, because I love Michigan...but I just don't agree with what they chose to do here.  We're looking at the very real possibility of running Mallett and Denard out in the span of three years.  Incredible.

When the hell will this "send/run" Mallet out meme die by fire?

It is complete bullshit.

Mallet had serious maturity issues, and was looking for ANY excuse to leave the program.

Could a high profile pro style coach have convinced him to stay?  Maybe, but it was 100% Ryan Mallet's decision to leave Michigan.

Otherwise, I agree with you, it was pure stupidity to not give ANY coach a 4 year chance.

(assuming there are no hotel room-full-of-dead-hookers scenarios)

1. Input every word from the third draft of Bo's Lasting Lessons into a university supercomputer.  The one Brian has as a server for mgoblog would work nicely.

2. Develop complex algorithm.

3. Use it to determine the name of the next coach and the end of the world.

4. Show results to the coach.

5. Hire coach

6. ??

7. Win national title in 2011-12

Have the new HC along with the OC/DC come out to rap music in basketball unis and have everyone bask in their glory before they sit down to answer some softball questions.

But first we need an hour long ESPN special....

I think we should hold a big TV show called the decision that will air on ESPN and when the final decision is made everyone is pissed off at the person who will be our next coach, except for us Michigan fans who will accept him with open arms. I can remember a scenario like this one that seemed to work out for someone in the past.

call a press conference and hide him in the back.  when his name is said, he runs down the aisle, donkey puches rosenberg, and flies onto the podium in victory.

I guess when I started this thread I was looking for other ways in a serious way... but I have to admit.. it's the sarcasm that keeps me coming back for more.

I really have no idea what I meant by more serious... I guess maybe just things that could actually happen in the real world without embarassment... some sort of grand entrance to ignite the crisler crowd or something...

But the embarassment answers are the best... because they are absolutely hilarious.
