Rank your coach picks? (and other stuff)

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Don't care if it's a list of one or twenty...rank your coaching choices.

And other stuff. It's only taking a bit over an hour and a half to hit 200. Maybe we'll go for 300 (of the non-Spartan variety).

Though about 75 of the last thread might have been about pizza....

Harbaugh is #1, but if not here's my Top 10 non-Harbaugh coaches:

1. Spurrier (He'd shake up things and he's long been my favorite coach)

2. Sarkisian

3. Patterson

4. Fitzgerald

5. Peterson

6. Urban

7. Bob Stoops

8. Pelini

9. Dan Mullen

10. Tony Dungy

A few guys who I'd HATE: Matt Millen, Brady Hoke, Mark Dantonio, John Cooper, Les Miles, Eric Mangini, Steve Mariucci, Gary DiNardo, Glen Mason, Nick Saban, Dave Wannstadt

Sarkisian is someone that should be on the list. Top 5 in my opinion. He took a horrible, horrible Washington team that wen 0-12 and has gone 12-13 in the last 2 years. If he was hired it'd sort of be like Gene Chizik going to Auburn after going 5-19 at Iowa State. There are a couple of big knocks on Sarkisian being hired here though. He makes $2.3M already, he has no midwest ties, and he's connected to USC's NCAA violations. However, I think he'd be a good hire and he recruits well California and the rest of the west.

1. Harbaugh

2. Meyer

3. Gruden

4. Patterson

5. Miles

Granted not one of those would be easy to get but im sure one of them would come

1. Robert Rodriguez - He's only 42 and could devise some great schemes. I'm already thinking about defensive backs equiped with sawed off shot guns and linebackers with machetes. Quentin Tarantino would make a good offensive coordinator.  Throwing the bomb gets a new meaning.

2. Bill Belichick - Shoot for the moon.

3. Tony Dungy - As mentioned in many posts. Again I'm shooting for the moon.

4. Jim Harbaugh

5. Les Miles - Not well liked here, but seems to be able to win.

6. Brian from MGoBlog. The guy knows and loves Michigan football and would probably be a better choice than a lot of the names floating around out there.  I'm more than half serious about this.

Question: Are there any I-AA coaches worth a look this year?

1.  Any coach on those Coors Light commercials

2.  Zoltan Mesko

3.  George Morales

Realistically

1.  Harbaugh

2.  Patterson

3.  Mullen

1) JH- hottest coach and hell recruits will probably dig him

2) Gruden- don't know if he would be the best coach but if your a 16-18 year old kid, who didn't watch MNF and be like this dude is awesome. has to count for something

3) patterson- Texas pipeline>Florida IMO

4) Miles- luckiest SOB ever... i guess we could use some of that

5) Bring back Bo from the grave- we have the technology

Besides hiring Bill Belichick or resurrecting Yost, Crisler, or Schembechler...

Long Shots Included Here (Chip Kelly, Saban, Stoops and Meyer are somewhere between long shots and dead coaches)

Not including coaches recently hired w/in the last year or w/o head coaching experience

Probably forgot a name or two

1) Jon Gruden

2) Jim Harbaugh

3) Gary Patterson

4) Les Miles

5 Dan Mullen

6) Mike Stoops

7) Bo Pelini - Would be higher if he wasn't an tOSU grad

8) Mike Gundy

9) Pat Fitzgerald

10 Chris Petersen

11) Kyle Whittingham

12) Charlie Strong

13) Gary Pinkel

14 - 93) Lots of coaches and coordinators that I hope we never talk about seriously

94) Mike Leach

95) Paul Johnson

96) Brady Hoke

97) Skip Holtz

98) Greg Schiano

99) Lloyd Carr

100) Friedgen

Listening to Jon Gruden on MNF who doesn't feel like going outside and laying someone out?  I can only imagine what his players would feel.

Any chance he would come to AA?  I would LOVE to see him on the sidelines

I still think we should have kept RR.  Especially with all the crap that is going on now.  I dont see how you fire the guy without having somebody else lined up.  He deserved a 4th year.  Sorry about the 3 straight posts.

1. Jim Harbaugh

2. Gary Patterson

3. Chip Kelly

4. Urban Meyer

5. Rich Rodriguez

6. Les Miles

There are no more options.  I wish there were some potential FCS coaches, but there are none that would fit the bill (i.e., young and successful).

1. Jim Harbaugh

2. Urban Meyer (minus the arrest records for players)

3. Gary Patterson

4.  Les Miles

5. Ghost of Bo Schembechler

6. Lloyd Brady

7. Tom Brady

8. Some diamond in the rough coordinator from ...

9. Somebody else

1001. Brady Hoke

1000002. Lloyd Carr

As crazy as this has all been, is it that far out there that if we cant find anybody else that we re-hire Rich Rod???  We already un-fired him once.

Whoever we get, I echo Mike Hart's sentiments:

Rich Rod didn't have a chance because no one agreed with the hire from the top to the bottom of the school and all over town," Hart said. "I'm going to be 100 percent behind whoever the coach at Michigan is and I hope everybody that loves Michigan is the same way, too, even if they don't like who Dave Brandon hires.

Yes, even if that means Hoke or Miles.

My criteria is who matches up best against Tressell.

1. Jim Harbaugh

2. Dan Mullen

3. Brian's Patterson / Petersen / Wittingham triplets

6. Les Miles with English as DC and Loeffler as OC

Distant 7. Hoke with English as DC and Loeffler as OC

N/A Any pro coaches like Gruden or Dungy (please) seems too gimmicky

N/A Big college names like Urban Meyer don't see right either, however if we don't get Harbaugh and the alternate coach only lasts 3 years again, maybe Meyer and Harbaugh will be available again.

Oh snap!

No seriously, I think at this point we have 4 realistic options: Hoke, Miles, Patterson, and Whittingham (not the best year for him)

So then of the options I'd say:

1) Patterson- great coach, he'd be a better get than Harbaugh cause he can coach the spread

2) Hoke- lacks ideal experience, but I love his passion for Michigan football

3) Whittingham- had a great '08 season but has underachieved a bit since then, plus it might be tough to pull him away from the Holy Land

4) Miles- mmmm...artificial grass... anyway, might be a bit too expensive, plus I don't like that potential scholarship scandal

1.  Jim Harbaugh

2.  John Harbaugh

3. Bill Cowher

7.  Dan Mullen (less attractive w/out Diaz)

8.  Brady Hoke

9.  Les Miles

Some unlikely candidates who are under the radar as either HC or Coordinator (in no particular order except the first guy because his name is awesome)

Ruffin McNeil

Larry Fedora

Mike Riley

Butch Jones

Jon Tenuta

Jeff Tedford

Bill Cowher

Of those often mentioned already as legit candidates (with some prioritization)

1. Gary Patterson

2. Mike Bellotti

3. Kyle Wittingham

4. Urban Meyer

5. Chris Peterson

Sorry kitty - no Hoke please, and I just have a bad feeling about Mullen.

I don't know a lot about the coordinators/others you mention...other than Jones/Tedford/Cowher (any of which I don't think I could endorse)....but I do like the legit candidate list as it doesn't include Miles or Hoke.

Bobby Boucher

January 7th, 2011 at 9:18 AM ^

Sadly, if we were ranking coaches based on their interest in the job then Hoke would be the first and only one on our lists.  But, since none of the names you guys are listing have any interest and therefore anything that is sequenced is simply not going to happen, then:

1. Bo

2. Yost

3. Carr

mikel796

January 7th, 2011 at 9:28 AM ^

1) Paterson

2) Harbaugh (a pipe dream at this point, I think, but maybe the delay in his NFL search reserves some hope)

3) Anyone but Miles and Hoke

TSimpson77

Since this is mythical like the National Championship

1 Jimmy Hardballs

2 Chip Kelly

3 Jon Gruden

4 Coach Taylor (Friday Night Lights TV series)

5 Mark Stoops

6 Les Miles

7 Bud Foster

8 Chris Peterson

9 Patterson

10 Mike Leach

I'm somewhere on the list(around 999,999) just ahead of the coach at San Diego State.(If we don't say his name maybe he'll go away)
