Bo Pelini Vote

Submitted by Ziff72 on

I hadn't thought of him until I listened to Brian's podcast, but he's my #1 choice right now by a land slide.

With all the returning starters I think we can still win the Big Ten next year.

1. Defense-With all the returning players he can make a big,  instant impact on the defense and with his rep and Michigan's name he could lock down some big name d recruits down the stretch and bring a few from his class to jump start our recruiting Mojo.

2. Offense- Don't think he is married to any one style but he ran as close an offense to ours as anyone last year.

3. Style-Similar emotional style to RR might help in player retention.

4. Dick Factor- He'll take the Freep and skull fuck them.

Are we worried that all ten of those Northwestern fans will come down on us like a ton of bricks?  More likely they'll just crack open a Chardonnay, sit back in their easy chairs, and direct some strong language in our direction.  (Hey, this is fun, being able to use the "Chardonnay drinker" line against another fan base!)

Bo II?  I'll TAKE IT.  He even played at Ohio State.

Thing is, he comes off like a meathead, an over-caffeinated high school phys-ed coach, but I would look past that due to (a) Pelini no doubt understands The Game and (b) this would hurt a Big 10 front-runner, and one of our biggest rivals moving-forward, for next year.

Actually with the increase in coverage by MSM, probably alot closer to Bo Schembechler than alot of people might think.....would NOT be open to the public......and from everything I have heard out here in Omaha, he does get along with the players.  Supposedly alot of issues with Martinez due to parental conflicts.

He assaulted sideline markers and punched a camera man. He was eventually fired for punching a linebacker on the opposing team.

To be fair, he did win multiple national titles, so I guess I could live with that.

Honest question: Why would Bo want to leave Nebraska to come to Michigan?

He's done the hard work of recovering from a bad coaching hire and bringing the team back to where it was.  You think he wants to jump to a similar situation and do it all over again?  Not to mention, within the same division?

Doesn't make any sense to me.

This guy went to the Big 12 championship game two straight years and brought that program back from mediocrity. Also, its not like he's coming from a subpar football program. Nebraska is a legendary program. And now, people actually expect him to leave all that to coach a team that's not only in his conference, but in his division? A fanbase that just ripped a non "Michigan man" to shreds over three years? So he's going to go from probable division dominance and conference contention for at least the next 3-5 years to what is currently a middle of the road Big Ten team with a furious fanbase? Are you serious?

We're really grasping at straws here.

There was a flightaware flight from Willow Run to Lincoln yesterday evening!

Not joking, but likely not serious, as the flight continued on to Las Vegas. Maybe DB and Pelini are playing some craps right now.

A bit impressionable, are we?

We keep tossing around the same names.  What about other coaches outside of the typically named?

Mike Trgovac

Mike Singletary

Skip Holtz

Tom O'Brien

Josh McDaniels

I know they don't all fit  the profile DB laid out but I would be pretty happy with any of them (even McDaniels)

Singletary took a talented 49ers team in a happless division, ie: perfect potential playoff conditions, and ran them so far into the ground they are still digging out. Not to mention the lack of recruting experience and multiple sideline/locker room blowups with his own players. That would be a terrible hire.

Would actually be a good hire - I'm surprised his name hasn't come up more often.  Plus he is devoid of lisp....

I just like Pelini better.  The only caution I have with him is that he may do with the defense what RRod did with the offense.  Make it his sole primary concern while abandoning the other end of the system.

Having said all that - we all know Brady Hoke is the next coach.  The blue grey hairs have spoken.

In fact fun game - coordinators when Hoke is hired:

Trgovac - defense coordinator

Loeffler - offensive coordinator (I know ....curveball)

"Soup" Campbell - WR coach

Bo Pelini would be a great hire...and so would Bob Stoops, Will Muschamp, or Jimbo Fisher.

Pelini leaving a program with as much tradition and support as Michigan and with a much better current team than Michigan is near impossible.

Before the Nebraska bowl game, Pelini sounded great to me, a scrappy coach, that works his players, likes tough defense and runs an offense similar to Rich Rod's.  But after an awful showing, albeit the team is young, I'm not convinced about Pelini. And like I said, the team is young, why would he leave something good at Nebraska to rebuild Michigan?

In Bo's last game in the Big House, my buddy and I were recruited to watch the game from the field to help protect the goal posts, we were ticket takers at the time. We watched with great glee as Jarrod Bunch scored 2 TD's in 2nd half, the latter sealed the win. On each TD Bunch bowled over a Buckeye safety at the goal line as he scored. My buddy and I had big fun at his expense,  pointing fingers and laughing as that Buckeye was picking himself up from both trips under the Tank called Jarrod Bunch. After TD #2 that deflated "Nut" told us we were #1 with sign language! He flipped us the bird!!! We roared with laughter, loving life and being a Michigan Wolverine! The safety..........Bo Pelini! True story.

I bet that source was someone from mgoblog.  Just messing with the toledo blade.  Could you imagine if BP was hired at UM.  Ex OSU player coaching hated rivals, blah blah blah.  No way.  Id rather have Gary Pinkel.
