CC: Local Radio Theory

Submitted by Augger on

OK take this one with a giant grain of salt as I trust radio people even less than I trust print sources, but if you are like me, you are scouring any and all sources for info so I offer this: On WDFN here in Detroit Ryan Ermanni (Pro-Michigan guy for what it is worth) is reporting the following...

1. The boosters and big money donation folks want Harbaugh in the worst way and are willing to put in cash to make it happen.

2. Brandon loves Brady Hoke, he would be his first choice of coach.

3. Mary Sue Coleman wants anyone other than Harbaugh based on his DUI, messy divorce, and the shot he took at UM a few years ago regarding academics.

His theory is that Brandon and MSC have to at least appear to be talking to Harbaugh to keep the boosters from going nuts, but are going to make sure the negotiations go nowhere so they can hire Hoke in the end.

Dear lord.

Hopefully its just another crazy rumor...lets all hope for the best whomever the new coach may be.

Go Blue!

This guy is pretty lightweight and sees what he wants to see. I'm sure there are a hundred people on this blog who have more insight.

And leaks to the press are likely made by Harbaugh's agents to stoke the bidding war. That doesn't mean we get him, but it increases the likelihood that we are all being played.

I also heard this theory a couple weeks from some former players who played with Brandon at UM.  Supposedly Brandon is completely closed up except that he is working very closely with Carr to make this decision.

This would go along well with the whole "MSC is a huge b****" philosophy.  It is believable based on that alone.  However, why would DB want Hoke over Harbaugh?  That makes no sense.

If Harbaugh goes to the NFL it's a nice "save-face" story. "We wanted Hoke all along!"

That being said, I don't really believe anything at this point.

Silly humans. I am in control, along with my minions 503 and 504.

With every member of the media joining in the rampant speculation, it is impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff. No one else has come up with any solid info, so I suspect this is more noise.

Come on - this is nothing but rank speculation.

If Harbaugh would rather be in the NFL, that is fine - he is entitled.  Many would make the same choice.  While I think that Harbaugh would be a home run hire, I would also be fine with a guy like Hoke who has publicly said that he considers Michigan to be his dream job and would do it for free.  To me, that type of Michigan love goes a long way.

My sources inside the athletic department tell me that Jim Harbaugh hates "Field of Dreams" which automatically disqualifies him in Dave Brandon's eyes because he thinks that that movie is "Totally Awesome"

They also tell me that JH thinks that "Return of the Jedi" was the best original Star Wars movie, which: lol, everybody knows its "The Empire Strikes Back"

there's "where there's smoke" elements to the Brady Hoke and his Band of All Stars (former players). as stunning as that is, it might be a "surround him with enough talented overpaid coaches and he can't fuck up too bad" plan. can't conclusively put my finger on it completely so just take it as a fwiw.

I can't take this much longer. I simply cannot get fired up or have any hope of returning to success if Brady Hoke is our coach. I'm sure he's a good guy but he ain't JH. Is this what's become of us? The best we can draw to coach the winningest program in history is Brady Hoke? I don't drink but I'm seriously considering it.

What if Harbaugh is Blue through and through so he personally misinformed rosenberg so that he could take away his credibility? Doubtful, but it makes more sense than the OP.

...could be that Brandon values continuity, and Harbaugh would not promise to stay should the NFL come calling in a few years.  I had also heard that Hoke was high on Brandon's list so that is not a surprise.  And I would not be surprised by MSC's resistance to hiring Harbaugh.

This has been the most entertaining part of it to me as well.  All the speculation, which I am not surprised or upset over, but the two key figures have yet to say a word.  They are probably skyping each other, throwing back some beers, and having a good laugh.

I'm sure Harbaugh has a very smart and savvy agent.  It wouldn't shock me that he might leak some "Jim's not coming to Michigan" rumors to members of the media to be able to pull some more $$$ out of Brandon's pocket.  This is big boy poker.  I hope we win!

Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?   The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.
