CC: Brent Venables?

Submitted by RadioSimon1983 on

All this Harbaugh talk is boring.  What if Harbaugh says no?  Is Venables on the radar?  Cuz this guy has been a DC for a long time.  I'm surprised he hasn't been tapped as a coach, and he's a defensive minded coach, which is what Michigan should try.  Clearly the Offensive minded coach thing isn't working out like excepted.

I thought about putting a /s in there so people knew I was referring to my username and not just disagreeing.

But then I also thought people would think I was using sarcasm to support his firing, which I didn't support ...so it was up to people to realize the joke for themselves.

...And I may just keep the name- who knows, in three years it might be a good reminder as to why you don't fire coaches too soon...

you could see it in the press conference post game. that was just an "aww shucks, we just got our asses handed to us" moment. it was more along the lines of "fml, it's over here and i know it." i don't know how he comes back from that mindset. my guess is that he knows and is resigned to his fate.

for the record, i like RR and wished he was successful here, but i think both parties (RR and UM) are ready for the next chapter.

These are just the ideas coming from my head (no inside info):

Urban is not an option this year.  He has stress-related health issues and is not going to coach this season.

However, if we do continue this (increasingly) awkward relationship with RR, I believe that Urban would be a candidate in 2011 to replace him (if he wins less than say... 10 games (including bowl) next season).  Is this even a good option?   I don't know.

I'm not sure about "unstable".  Michigan just needs a good coach to give them credibility and dig them out of this hole.  If Meyer only came for three years, he could probably get this thing straightened out.  I realize that he wouldn't be here for the next 20 years but that's not really what Michigan needs right now.

Michigan won’t hire a guy who has never been a head coach, and whom 99 percent of the fan base has never heard of.

He might do a terrific job, but we will never know. He is not an option Brandon would even remotely consider.

Honestly, wouldn't you rather they keep Rich Rod for one more season as opposed to hiring someone who is unqualified [via Brady Hoke or even Pat Fitzgerald]? If you lose out on one of your guys - Jim Harbaugh, Chris Peterson, Jon Gruden, whoever DB has his eye on - then wait a year, see what happens, see who becomes available (Urban Meyer!!!) and then reconvene the search.

We have such a favorable schedule next season that it would be dumb for us to destroy the team all for some second rate coach.

Look, lets be sensible about this.  DB knew JH might not come here.  DB knew he had to have a backup plan so this whole thing doesn't go Martin on him.  We just don't know what the backup plan is, wait and see, case closed.

If we're mentioning assistants out there such as Benables, Malzahn might be worth a look as well, especially if we're looking for continuity in the offense.  I'd probably prefer a more defensive minded coach if we went that route route though.
