Bring Back the Wrecking Crew

Submitted by Ziff72 on

I'm one of a tiny percent of people in the Gerg undecided camp, but while I was reading about the Temple job I was surprised to see my favorite ESPN analyst Bob Davie listed as one of the finalists.   Some of you young bucks may not remember him as anything than a mediocre Notre Dame coach or as the analyst on a second tier SEC game on Sat nights, but back in the day he lead one of the best defenses in the country at Tex A&M before moving on to ND.

Just another fun name to throw around as we come down the home stretch.

Are we talking about Bob Davie the annoucer?  Wow just goog'd him...didn't realize he coached the Irish.  I don't think he's half bad in the booth.  Sort of like him in there.

that Bob D put on the field was known for their ability to lay the wood.  They had big strong fast athletes that were the terror of college football in my epinion.  Not sure about scheme at the time but they would knock the snot out of opposing Offenses.

Google 'Coryatt the hit' and you can find a YouTube example of that hard hitting defense. Of course, today, 'The Hit' would be ruled helmet-to-helmet but that defense was nasty. I would embed, but it's a pain on the iPhone.

Davie was at aTm from 88 to 93, when half of the Southwest Conference was on probation and he can ink all the recruits he targeted.  He was less than stellar at ND, and was a debacle as a HC.  He should stay as a broadcaster.

Until Jeff Casteel formally ink a contract with buyout with WVU for the 2011 season, we need to pursue him.  Otherwise, we should look into Trgovac and let him pick his assistants.

Any of them open for a scholarship?  Being fictitous might hold back their Rivals rating, but having the strength of Asgardian gods would make for good D-linemen.

I'm going to go ahead and attribute everything good that happened with that program to RC Slocum and be done with it, if for no other reason than his facebook album that just made its way around the interwebs.

In all seriousness I think the man sounds like an idiot in the booth and he was an abject disaster at Notre Dame.
