CC, SFH: Scott Wolf says Harbaugh to Michigan on January 4

Submitted by Glen Masons Hot Wife on
http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/archives/2010/12/the-rumor-mill-17.html So, Scott Wolf, a supposed USC insider is claiming Harbaugh to Michigan immediately following the Orange Bowl. Don't really know too much about Scott Wolf. He doesn't exactly elaborate on his info. Hard to gauge the credibility. Any thoughts on the guy? Negbang me to heck*, I don't care. Given the importance of the topic, I'll read anything about/discuss it until a decision is made. *Modification to make this post Safe For Home. Edit - Why are there no spaces where I placed them? Sorry for the lack of spacing.

When talking about the Florida job, someone asked the so called expert on if Florida talked to Jim Harbaugh or not, and he said, the guy he talked to within Florida said that they heard Harbaugh to Michigan is a done deal, so they didn't bother.  This is still information, and while it may not be true, it's worth sharing.

Why are all of these people quoting anonymous sources?  Really, why?

What we know, from past experience, including recent, immediate, past experience, is that most of these anonymously-sourced stories are wrong.

But why, in the first place, do people get anonymity?  We're not talking about criminal investigations, or national security, or Securities and Exchange Commission matters.  We're talking about sports, and not even the games themselves; just coaching jobs.

Really, the world of sports writing and sports reporting is just such garbage.  TMZ gets things right more often than most of the sportswriters that I hear discussing the future of Michigan football.  Sports reporting has gotten less ethical, and less principled, than gossip rags.

The first question for any of these guys ought to be, "Why can't you reveal your source?  Be specific.  Describe the nature of your source's position that makes it impossible to reveal his identity."

Brian has some good sources, and from that, has been able to break a few things through this very site, so it goes both ways.  The host of the show, talking to an SEC expert, asked a question - did Florida talk to Harbaugh?  Cause why wouldn't they, if they thought he was available.  He quickly said, from what he heard, Harbaugh to Michigan is a done deal.  It's pretty clear, had they thought otherwise, he would have been linked to the Florida job.  This is the Florida job we're talking about here, easily one of the top three jobs in college football.  I doubt they said that to "save face" with their fans.  They are very happy with Will Muschamp, as they should be.

We know that you donated to the site last week because you've been posting about it incessantly.  I haven't even been here that much since the season ended, but somehow I know that you seemingly throw this message in every post.  If people want to give, they will give.  Quit slapping us in the face with it.  Haven't you ever heard that donating is best done anonymously?

If you become a mod, I'll stop reading this blog.

Good for you.  Here's a goddamn medal.  I'm not saying don't donate, I'm saying I would rather you not mention it every post!!  Your like the Salvation Army.  I donate to them, but they still ring that damn bell at me every time I need to pick up paper towels from the convenience store.  It gets annoying after awhile!

but the more you remind us that you donated, the cheaper your gesture seems.

I think leaving the solicitation in your signature is appropriate.  Your message will still be out there, but in a much more subtle way.

I did not consider that I was reminding people that I personally donated with that post.  That was not my intention or hoped-for response at all.  I honestly was just trying to do a good thing.  Its true - people that solicit donations are definitely annoying and it was not my intention to annoy.

Thank you for calling him out

Were you afraid to discuss your feelings with him yourself or did you not quite know how to express those feelings without resorting to grade school name calling?

And, for the record, I find your avatar to be "virtually intolerable" but I just click Esc everytime I see your posts and move on.

I don't think a negbang is in order because you are clearly stating this as a rumor of questionable reliability. Had you made a blanket claim then yes. For this I believe a neutralbang is in order.

Eh, I'm only one person, but I won't neg you. I'm only going to neg people who hijack non-CC threads, claim they have insider info, or are otherwise idiots. Thanks for sharing (even if it's horse plop).
