OT: Urban Meyer Retires -- Confirmed
December 8th, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
if true
December 8th, 2010 at 2:18 PM ^
He pulled this stunt last year and it landed him an insanely good recruiting class. If it worked last year, why not try it again
December 8th, 2010 at 5:54 PM ^
If we are getting uncertainties from recruits left and right because of the talk of POSSIBILITIES of a coaching change, why would coming out and saying you retire/quit/take a break gain you commitments?
If Rich Rod came out tomorrow and said he quit because of the stress of coaching, we would see pandamonium and decommitments (heaven fucking forbid, and I mean that in the most serious way possible) across the board.

Just got announced on SVP show Florida's AD made the announcement.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Any chance our bowl opponent is play for an interim coach by New Years?
December 8th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
Do they try to persuade Mullen?
December 8th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
Dan Mullen is good, but still somewhat unproven as a head coach. My pick, if I was the Florida AD:
1. Chip Kelly
2. Chris Petersen
Phil Knight -- break out the checkbook.
December 8th, 2010 at 7:19 PM ^
Last year when Urban pulled the same thing Mullen was on the top of every short list for replacements.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:44 PM ^
It wasn't clear from your post, but are you insinuating that Dan Mullen would be hired by UF? I think that he'd be a great hire considering his ties with the program and the fact that their offense sucks since he left. He's a good coach.
I think he'd have to be the odds on favorite, and that's a high probability that if this is true and Meyer is really done, then we might be playing a team in our bowl that is coach by an interim coach and not Dan Mullen.
I think this might make it more probable that Chuck Heater could be a candidate for the DC job here too.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:54 PM ^
He appears to be a perfect fit for Florida. So far so good as a head coach at Miss St, excellent track record as an assistant within the current UF system. I agree, he's the obvious successor.

December 8th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
Even if Mullen becomes their next coach, Urban is coaching Florida's bowl game, so they'll probablywait to announce it until after their games.
December 8th, 2010 at 4:49 PM ^
December 8th, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
Thing is, uncertainty hurts recruiting, so they'd want to announce it ASAP. It'd also be a disservice to MSU to wait, since they'd have to launch a search after most of the prospects have already selected a seat in the big game of musical chairs.
December 8th, 2010 at 6:51 PM ^
But needs to scale back the responsibility...perhaps by becoming the next Defensive Coordinator at the University of Michigan!!!
December 8th, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
Again?
He'll be back next week.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:52 PM ^
what effect does this have on Hart's recruitment?
Does this push him to reconsider Alabama, lock on to Michigan because at least they still have their coach? This is likely the most immediate "good news" to come out of today and while I am not opening this for rapid speculation... his biggest concern with UM was coaching stability... or would it not be an issue since Florida would likely remain a Spread team? idhe80fdh08hw328h
December 8th, 2010 at 4:44 PM ^
If its Mullen, I'd guess no change to might hurt us a little bit. He's a great spread guy and that sounds like Dee's #1 priority right now.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:40 PM ^
I sense a disturbance in the retirement force. Nobody had been discussing Favre's retirement for too long. Meyer had to drop a bomb to turn the discussion in his favor.
Don't care. I will gladly accept Florida falling into mediocrity...unless I get in there for grad school.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
He is the Pat Riley of college football coaches. Both in the "can't actually retire" sense and the "GREEEEAAAAAZE" sense.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
He is going to close in on Brett Favre status soon. If I turn on ESPN in an year and see a commerical with one or two lights signaling his comeback I wont be surprised.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
If I turn on ESPN in a year and hear that the reason he "retired" is because he sexted a picture of his penis to a Florida coed I won't be surprised.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
Nice +1 to u my good sir
December 8th, 2010 at 5:08 PM ^
Don't underestimate the power of the teledong
December 8th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
wow thought he had figured out all his issues last offseason
December 8th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
Maybe 7-5 changed his mind
December 8th, 2010 at 6:21 PM ^
More likely he thought he would figure out his issues last time, and didn't. So he's still facing the same issues and came to the same conclusion.
I'd be surprised if he can sit still though, and doesn't come back; maybe not at Florida again, but somewhere within a year or two.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
His last "resignation" turned out to be a 20-minute nap. So, consider me skeptical.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
Where would D. Hart to go then?
December 8th, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
It doesn't matter RR is coming back for next season, therefore Dee is coming to Michigan.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
the first one to imply this has gotta be good for Michigan (re. Dee)
+1
December 8th, 2010 at 5:06 PM ^
December 8th, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
wow, what are the odds that $aban announces he's going back to the pro's in the next couple days??? This explains why he delayed his enrollment, just chaos everywhere he's looking at.
December 8th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
You're back! Quick, down to the batcave and give us a preview of Miss State plsgreatthenthanks. I would request you include at least one Derp

December 8th, 2010 at 2:10 PM ^
Exactly what I was thinking. Let's take some recruits back from the Gator Bowl!
December 8th, 2010 at 2:52 PM ^
Hell, he's from Michigan.
December 8th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
to Exxon Baths
December 8th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
leaving to coach Denver. Then he can feel like a winner again.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
The long distance relationship with Tebow must be killing him.
December 8th, 2010 at 5:05 PM ^
Awesome. This might be a record for most popular non-image, non-video post, as far as I know.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
December 8th, 2010 at 5:36 PM ^
While the Denver Broncos are the obvious Denver, I first thought you meant that since the Denver Pioneers are headed to the WAC, he was going to be in charge of restarting their undefeated football program. Then reality hit.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
So... Dee wouldn't wanna commit there, right?
Hell, who knows anything these days.
December 8th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
the style of offense. If Florida stays with the spread, he'll go there. He's just worried Michigan will change styles with the adition of a new coach.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
Fanhouse = bullshit
Almost always anyways.........
December 8th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
I wonder if this might make Showers available. Top 10 CB on scout.
December 8th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
showers have always been available. if you thought they were unavailable, then how long has it been since you last showered?
