TomVH: Quick Chris Bryant Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Chicago OL Chris Bryant is coming in for an official visit this weekend with his parents. He does not have any other visits planned after this, but he could schedule a few if he decides he needs to.

Michigan is in good position with Chris, but he does have some concerns about the coaching situation. He plans on asking about those concerns this weekend. I don't expect him to make a decision this weekend, but it's not out of the question. I don't think he really knows what he wants to do at this point until some things are cleared up. This visit will be for him to see more of the social life and how he interacts with the players.

I hate to say it, but I feel like any verbal commit at this point is just conjecture, until the coaching situation is decided. Any verbal now has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Great work, though, Tom.

I'll personal take any verbal now the same way I would any other verbal at any other time.  I mean if a recurit commits he knows the situation here and I don't see a reason why he would then turn around a de-commit.

Now, if Rodriguez is let go, than I'll take ANY verbal on the board with a grain of salt until they sign on the dotted line.

That is true, to a point, but at the same time I would think the coaches are talking to these kids and trying to give them assurances on their status. They may not know their status, so they have to convey a feeling of business as usual and progress forward as if they will be here in the coming season. So, it's a hard situation for both parties, and some kids might be convinved only to see a different outcome.

"Potential" lame duck recruiting is so complicated. Blah.

Lets all be honest . . . There aren't many things better than TomVH's posts.  And the fact that we get them free of charge is outstanding.  I am forever grateful, Mr. VH.

Chris,

Good, aggressive, hard-working offensive linemen will be successful in any program under any coach.  It's the helmet, education, tradition, and name recognition that make the difference.

Just ask Steve Schilling and David Molk when you are on campus this weekend....

I will say this: if we can pull a great recruiting class (whether RR is fired or not) even through all of this controversy and uncertainty because of how DB is able to talk recruits through the situation, he will grow to ultra-legendary status. Word was that he has been talking to the guys that come in on visits and it will be very telling to see what happens with them, IME.

it sounds like all he said was "Michigan is an awesome school" and didn't say anything specific about the coaching situation.

If we pull in an awesome recruiting class, I think it should be chalked up to the job that Rich Rod and his staff have done getting guys like Lyons interested in the program.  I know there were complaints last year that the staff wasn't hitting the trail that hard, but recruits seem to be raving about the staff this year.

Once we get people to start committing, we'll hit top 20 for sure.  Throw in the fact that we could essentially replace a 3* in Conway with a 4* in Lucien and that we're still in play with a number of 4*'s (Zettel, Frost, Countess, Lyons, Walls, Taylor, etc.), it will be a question if we're getting in the top 10.

Chris Bryant will surely ask DB about RR. Does he just say "sorry son your going to have to wait until January." ? It really is too bad that DB didn't just say RR is my coach for next year if that is ultimately what his decision will be. Then we can concentrate on winning the bowl game and landing a top recruiting class.
