I wonder if this helps us in recruiting and in our search for a new DC if RR stays.  I wouldn't mind having the 'stache or Shannon coaches our D!  Plus, it sure seems like he could recruit, and we've  been having a harder time in Penn. since he took over.

The Pitt AD is indeed the very same guy who singlehandedly changed the nickname from the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Nebraska Pantcrappers.

That's the great thing about America—you can fail upward.

No worries for the man. You know, come to think of it, he has a certain look to him that might make him a perfect fit for a career in . . . uh . . . maybe as a d-coordinator for another team? He has a great defensive mind.

Current Pitt commits who have Michigan offers are RB/WR Bill Belton, CB Terrell Chestnut, DE Desimon Green, CB Kyshoen Jarrett, and LB Ben Kline.

No, definitely not.  But Pitt doesn't have a recent history of being extremely good (they did go to a BCS game a few years back, which was fun having both alma maters in BCS games).  Also, from what I understand, Wannstedt is a very good (?) recruiter and a very good teacher of the game.  The biggest complaint I consistently heard was that he's not a good "gameday" coach.  And I guess that's what it comes down to after getting 4 years to prove himself (see what I did there?).

As a former Pitt student, this is basically spot on. He assembles a lot of NFL talent that go on to do good things, but can't put together a dominant team even in the Big East. Individually, Pitt has more talent than any other Big East team. Problem is, you take that talent against a team with a great scheme (Brian Kelly's UC) and get beat every time.

Also, the biggest complaint with the students was that he could never get it done when it mattered. He lost two in a row in the Backyard Brawl and two in a row to Cincinnati to lose BCS berths in 08-09, and then the Big East implodes this year and he couldn't deliver then either.

referring to Michigan specifically when talking about recruits like Steve Breaston and Marlin Jackson leaving the state when he was hired. Hard not to think he may have hurt us in recruiting with that emphasis. I look forward to any poaching and snake oiling that may take place. Re-open the Pennsylvania pipeline!

I never thought he was a particularly great coach anywhere, whether it was in the pros or in college.  I think he'd make a great D coordinator in the NFL (not in college though), but I don't think he gets any head coaching offers anytime soon (except for a lesser BCS program or non-BCS FBS school, which I doubt he'd take).

Wannstedt just seems to be one of those guys that just doesn't seem to have "it" as a head coach.   His teams are rarely bad but never very good either.    Given that he's now struck out after long tenures with the Bears, the Dolphins and now Pitt, I wonder if he ever gets another shot or if he's just going to go back to being an DC somewhere.
