OT:Suh on first and ten

Submitted by bsand2053 on

Did anyone see Suh on First and ten with Rob Parker and Skip Bayless?

Suh's blank face at the end of the interview was priceless.  Parker is lucky Suh didn't commit a real personal foul.

Parker is an ignorant asshat. Bayless, at least imo, is more tolerable but still ignorant. Suh should have given Parker the forearm shiver he gave Cutler. Which was completely within the rules.

Not a Lions fan, so I don't have a dog in this fight.  The call on the Cutler hit was bad, but honestly Suh brought that on himself when he tried to tear Jake Delhomme's head off in the pre-season.  That was a pretty bad and dirty hit/assault, and Suh may be a tad blacklisted for a while when it comes to close calls like this.

I am not saying what he did was within the bounds of football rules. Just saying it doesn't rise to the level of assault. If you are advocating the blacklisting of Suh for it I would again disagree. It was one play in a preseason game in his rookie year.

As far as Harrison goes I am glad he is standing up for himself and defensive players. Should helmet to helmet hits be allowed no definately not. But a lot of the fines going out are for non helmet to helmet. Tell me one NFL rule change that has benefitted defense in the last few years? Why can a running back go to the head of a defensive player with a stiff arm but if a defender does it it is 15 yards? The NFL wants to see points scored and protect its qb's no matter what effect it has on defensive play.

Suh has instantly given the Lions a defensive presence they have not had since who knows when. His aggressive hitting and the presence/reputation that result heavily outweigh a few penalties.

He is only going to get better and I like the way the lions are playing. It is not consolation for a 2-10 record but I see progress for the first time in a decade. Schwartz will get us there we just have to be patient.

Not that call in that particular game..  But the first Bears game and a boat load of questionable penalties and calls from there.  You know you can't get over that hump when someone keeps helping you back down.

That Suh call was bullshit.  He clearly didn't use his forearm and Culter was effectively a running back at the time. I can't wait until the Lions are good enough (crosses fingers) to actually get the respect of the officials and get some calls now and then.

Man no way is Parker worse than Bayless.  Bayless runs his mouth non-stop about nothing in particular just to make an argument.  I guarantee you that if Suh would not have been on the set he would have been all over the lions as Parker was.  At least Parker has balls enough to say in front of Suh.  Bayless needs to stop thinking he is the best analyst on ESPN and go back to Dallas.

No - what happened?  Also, what's "First and Ten"?  Also also should be OT.

EDIT: Since I also don't know who Rob Parker is, I googled.  His wikipedia entry makes him out to be a total jacka**.

He's promoting a Michael Jackson dance submission competition to raise money for a charity. Just heard some details while getting ready in the morning. They mentioned he was going to do some dancing on First and Ten though...

It would have been 2nd and 2, the Bears had driven easily down the field, and the penalty only added like 6 yards.  It didn't determine the outcome of the drive whatsoever. It wasn't even an egregiously bad call, merely a debatable one.

Have you watched any lions games this year? When has a debatabale one gone the Lions way? Calvin didn't complete the process? Horse collar tackle on a legal hair pull? Now a personal foul on Suh because he tackled a qb in a way he would a running back when the qb was acting as a running back. The Lions are bad but they sure as hell don't get the benefit of any debatable calls.

I mean I agree with pretty much everything you said except the last sentence.  The call was clearly the wrong call, unless you want to debate the definition of forearm shiver to include pushing with the palm of a hand.

That being said, I don't really think it impacted the outcome of the drive.  I'm just pissed that it got called b/c Suh might as well have actually given Cutler the business.  In which case it might have impacted the outcome of the drive.

You are right it that call wasn't debatable and the bears probably would have scored anyways. I have gotten very frustrated this year watching the Lions. I know I know its the Lions. But it seems like they are a team that is trying very hard to turn the corner. There is almost tangable progress which as a Lions fan is something new to see. Then we keep getting crapped on with horrible officiating. Not that the Lions don't screw themselves as much as if not more than the officials do.

Was a horrible, horrible call, but I was at the game and I can't pretend the call didn't give me a great excuse to yell at Bears fans that their team sucks for playing touch football.

had the same impact as a bad offsides/neutral zone infraction call and less impact than a bad holding or PI or block in the back call or whatever.  1st and 10 or 2nd and 2 - it didn't change the game whatsoever.  The only reason people are talking is because it was a foul called on an issue that has received a lot of attention.

Lions fans need to go back to blaming their horrible team for being bad and undisciplined rather than the officials.  And keep creating TWIS previews in the Sunday NFL open threads.

How would you feal if this call had been made on Mike Martin? Two weeks after a previous horribly bad call on a legal hair pull?  Did it have a huge impact on this game? No probably not. But the Lions have had more than there fair share of crappy calls this year.

Sorry, but whenever I hear comments regarding a black person as being "well spoken," I automatically think of that classic Chris Rock bit:

"Whenever Colin Powell is on the news, white people give him the same compliments: 'How do you feel about Colin Powell?', 'He speaks so well! He's so well spoken. I mean he really speaks so well!' Like that's a compliment. 'He speaks so well' is not a compliment, okay? 'He speaks so well' is some shit you say about retarded people that can talk. What do you mean he speaks so well? He's a fucking educated man! How the fuck did you expect him to sound, you dirty motherfucker? 'He speaks so well.' What are you talking about? What voice were you expecting to come out of his mouth? 'Imma drop me a bomb today', 'I be Pwez o dent!'."

And I get that it's moreso because he's an athlete and not that he's black, but still - that bit is hilarious.

Lions season was officially over when they lost to the Jets.

We've seen that the team's intensity has not really slipped in the face of the lost season.

This is not something we've seen from them before.

They are much better this year, Schwartz is a good coach.  Had a few games  early in the year gone their way (CHI, GNB, NYJ) and Stafford stayed healthy, this coulda been a much better year.

Get ready for a legit playoff run next year.

If this lockout can be avoided, I think we have a great chance to build on what we have and at least be in the playoff hunt in November and December.  But they need to win division games.  If they can't at least protect home turf in the division, it's hard to climb out of the cellar.

Thanks to guys like Suh and VandenBosch , I am watching the Lions even with their 2-10 record. I've largely tuned them out since Barry retired, or I should say, I tuned out each year after 3 or 4 games when it became obvious they were still soft in the trenches.  I'm liking this team and the attitude the D-line brings.
