Limited number of Big Chill tickets on sale; other Big Chill news

From an annarbor.com report:

A limited number of remaining Big Chill at the Big House tickets are on sale, Michigan hockey spokesman Matt Trevor said Monday.

The tickets for the outdoor Michigan State at Michigan hockey game Saturday (3 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit) cost $15 and can be purchased by calling 1-866-296-6849.

Also, and I haven't seen this mentioned here before, but evidently MSU never went through the official steps to make the crowd at the 2001 Cold War an official Guinness world record. Michigan, however, is doing so, according to a different annarbor.com report:

Although the 2001 Cold War at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing drew a record crowd of 74,544, Michigan State officials never registered the event with Guinness officials.

An event can only try and break one world record, and that will be the mark set earlier this year in Germany when 77,803 witnessed a game at the IIHF World Championships.

An adjudicator from Guinness will document the event and, according to Riordan, Michigan officials have reached out to CCHA Commissioner Tom Anastos and Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje to serve as officials to verify crowd size.

One last item: The Free Press today had an article on former U-M hockey player Jay Vancik, who played in the Cold War game and is now a Secret Service agent. He still plays hockey--for a Secret Service team that has a big "rivalry" with an FBI team. He recounted his memories of the Cold War:

The highlight of his U-M hockey career was the Cold War game. Vancik had an assist in the game, but was on the ice when MSU freshman Jim Slater scored late to tie the game at 3.

Vancik thought he was interfered with during the sequence that resulted in Slater scoring.

"I was tied up in front of the net with one of the Michigan State players," Vancik said. "I think it should have been called for interference. I was knocked down, and I believe the goal actually went in off my stick.

"The atmosphere was obviously pretty intense, just being a Michigan-Michigan State game and the hype for the game. It was a pretty special experience."

According to weather.com, mostly cloudy, high 34, 10% chance precip on Saturday.  However, 30% chance snow on Friday and 50% chance of snow on Sunday.

Every time I play in the snow, I end up overskating the puck about 10 times.  Embarrassing!

Talked to Vancek at the game. He is a very humble man, didn't brag on and on about his position with the counter assault or his protetion of the pres. Seems to me he takes on his job just like he took on his job at Michigan, quiet, doing his job. I heard Camalleri was at the game but I think if he was there would be a crowd around him so I doubt its true.
