Submitted by TorontoBlue on

Danielson & Company just projected South Carolina to the Outback Bowl and Florida to the Gator Bowl based on today's results / FYI.

GO BLUE!

Gator has been following us all year, and reps were at several of our games.  They have said they don't care about records, only fans in the stands, heads in pillows and a good match-up.

EDIT:  Chengelis said a possible Tennessee re-match rather than Florida.  Either Florida or Tenn would be a fun game, and one we could have a decent match-up.

Danielson just mentioned how Florida jumped Michigan in 06 and played osu in the title game, and how that started the streak of SEC teams winning the NC. Fuck that. Florida should have never even been in that game. God, I hope we play Florida in the Gator Bowl and beat their ass...again.

Before Ginn's injury:

tOSU 7

Florida 0

After Ginn's Injury:

Florida 41

tOSU 7

I think Ginn's injury meant way more than anybody was willing to appreciate.  And playing in the Shoe, right after Bo's passing, against a healthy tOSU is something to consider.  In hindsight, sure, Florida rose up and made a statement.  But going into that decision, I thought Michigan playing in the MNC would have been totally justified.

So one wide receiver made a 34 point difference in the game.  He would have done nothing for the way Florida was quickly abusing Troy Smith; he would have done nothing for the way Florida's O was abusing OSU's D.  OSU was down one player in the MNC, and if anything, Bo's passing inspired our team during the game.

To look at things in such a black-and-white fashion.

Florida came into that game pissed, motivated, and feeling disrespected.

Ohio State came into that game expecting a cakewalk to the MNC.

Almost immediately, one of tOSU's best players get injured during a celebration of a touchdown.  Things got bad fast, but I promise you tOSU was not as bad as 42-14.  Momentum always plays a major role in college games.

I said in my post that in hindsight, Florida stepped up and proved they belonged.  However, if you want to go back and judge only the body of work prior to that bowl season, I propose that Michigan deserved to be in the conversation.  And on Bo inspring the team during the game, I agree it is cause for inspiration.  But go back and watch the first 2 minutes of the broadcast.  You'll see Lloyd Carr on the sideline, openly soul-searching and recollecting Bo.

is that on-field performance should be the final arbiter of the NC? I'm just saying in the context of the BCS we got robbed. If there was a playoff in place and we were knocked out by OSU, that would be fine.

I have little doubt we could have beaten them on a neutral site (who cares if not as dominantly as Florida did?), and the BCS polls had us jumped by a FL team that was #4 and had a weaker body of work than us.

Well, he mentioned how Auburn got shut out of playing in the national championship game in 04 and how unfair that was.  So he basically hinted that the college football world was making it up to the SEC by having Florida jump us in 06 because the SEC didn't deserve to go through that again.

Then...he basically kissed SEC ass yet again.

Going 3-0 against Florida would be awesome but Danielson and the media wouldn't care.  But Auburn losing in the title game might shut them up for a minute or so.

Michigan was a two point conversion try away from tieing the season opener against Utah, who then went undefeated and pimped Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.  Remember how the rest of Michigan's season went?

The transitive property doesn't always work for college football.

I'm sorry, but you are delusional if you think Florida didn't deserve to be in that game.  The Big 10 was not strong in 2006 and neither was our non conference schedule.  Our big non conference game against mighty top 10 Notre Dame turned out to be very meh after they got curb-stomped by every good team they played.  Michigan was good, but was NOT a championship caliber team.

may have been good enough to deserve it, but not way in HELL did the BCS math justify it; they double-jumped us for no reason after USC lost to UCLA, if I recall correctly.

Incomprehensible.

We either should have been bumped down from #2 after losing to OSU, or we should have played in the national championship game. The way it (procedurally) went down was absolutely ridiculous.

Florida got into that game because of lobbying by Urban Meyer and a broken BCS system. We lost by 3 points to OSU on the road, and I really think we threw in the towel against USC because we had an attitude of "man, we got jobbed by the BCS."

We may not have been a championship-caliber team, but Florida's OOC schedule featured Southern Miss, Central Florida, Western Carolina, and a mediocre (redundant these days) FSU team. They beat South Carolina by one point on a last second field goal, and got beaten convincingly by #10 Auburn.

I strongly believe we could have beaten OSU in the rematch in a neutral location.

WE GOT JOBBED.

Danielson is an idiot......his projections were based upon rankings and the tie-breakers in his head, but as we know, bowl selections don't work that way.

The 1st offensive series florida safeties were 12yds deep at the snap of the ball, just like they were a yr later against manningham and arrington....

The 2nd offensive series florida realized ted ginn wasn't in the game, they were both in the box and the florida defense was blitzing from everywhere.

Rewatch the tape..., a few series later ted ginn re enters the game, florida see's it and they back the safeties up again..., realize he is ineffective and cannot get off the line due to his ankle and they are right back in the box after 2 plays.

2006 season, sure florida got the mnc, but didn't deserve to be in the game...., kudos for them for getting the nod and taking advantage, but michigan was better, and up until mario's injury michigan was the best team in cf that season.

hearing all about the SEC is the best conference, and no other even comes close...Blah blah blah. I hope every SEC team loses this bowl season. Oregon will outscore Auburn by 20. Then Alabama gets pounded by a one loss team. LSU's luck has run out, and they will go down. South Carolina is demoralized and the book has been written on how to beat them.

Death to the McCloud's! (insert SEC for McCloud's) Screw their percieved superior speed, or whatever else people try to make us believe. Even though their teams will all play home bowl games again, they will still lose. ABC is in bed with that conference bigtime. Crooks.
