What if Tate has a great offseason?

I know Denard had an AMAZING season, I don't want anyone to interpret this post as anti-Denard, but honestly, Tate looked pretty good when he saw the field (Illinois game anyone?)  What happens if Tate has an amazing offseason? Could we have some QB competition in camp next year?

I suppose it's possible that he becomes a consistently bigger threat than one of the top Heisman contenders, but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

I mean, he had great numbers against the non-conference part of the schedule, but wasn't exactly on fire against the Big 10. 

Even ESPN is a little incredulous (he gets 1 5th place vote out of 15 ballots--and it is probably from the guy who didn't vote for Cam Newton at all...a fact that I just made up.)

I'm sorry, even after this season, I look at DR and think...Wildcat!  (Which is, seriously, a gimmick offense.  That's why teams only run it for a play or two a game, if at all!)

Call me when his Touchdown to Interception ratio is bigger than 2.

He's the first QB ever....EVER... in FBS history to gain over 1500 yards rushing

He's the first QB ever...EVER...in all of CFB to throw and pass for over 1500 yards separately. Heck, he set the record higher...first ever to get 1500+ yards rushing and 2000+ yards passing, and he's got a good shot at getting to 2500+ in the bowl game.

He actually got quite a few yards against Big 10 defenses. Of course there was a dropoff...but that will happen when the defenses are better than creampuffs. But even then, the overall dropoff was small.

[EDIT - Adding, the only reasons he's not really in teh Heisman conversation is because (1) of how many legitimate candidates there are, (2) Denard was a turnover machine despite his gaudy yardage stats, and (3) Michigan ended up only at 7-5 on the season]

2300 yards passing w/ 16 TD's out of the wildcat? wow, you're dumb!

pretty fucking good passing numbers for a first year starter no matter what kind of passer you are. He's only going to get better.

The only question I have with regards to Denard is his durability. Even that, however, should be tempered if we can get more production out of our running backs. I'd like to see us get to the point where denard's getting 10-15 designed carries per game, max.

As for Tate, I'm still surprised he hasn't decided to jumped ship for another school. I think he's got a lot of potential as a full-time starter, if he wanted it. I don't see him ever beating Denard out at Michigan, so, more power to him for being true to the team and sticking around.

As of now I think there is a pretty good chance he could be having an offseason someplace else.  I would love to see him back but not don't see a likely scenario where that happens.  Hope I'm wrong.

That Tate will cement himself as the best backup QB in the nation.  He isn't gonig to transfer, and Denard has shown too much skill and leadership to lose the job now.
